Add engine oil
I hab my brand new X1 since April this year and the engine oil warning light has turned on today and saying that the level is at min. Is that normal?

Actually I have been told by others that this is quite normal and have also experienced it myself on two other BMWs - my previously-owned 2006 525i and my current 550i GT. BMWs can be known to burn through the first couple quarts of oil quite quickly as the engine is worked in. The dealer will top it up for you at no charge and you should then be fine until your first scheduled service. Happy motoring! Enjoy the X1 - my wife absolutely loves hers (and so do I)!

This issue must be very well known to BMW, as I was given a free litre of BMW-branded motor oil (in a special zippered pouch) at the time of my X1 delivery. This tells me that they acknowledge the problem, and are encouraging the customer to top-up their own oil and not make a costly service appointment.

I have my car for 6 months now, done 9000kms +, and have never added a drop yet. Dash display shows well over Min mark. I have the petrol s18i. But diesels I believe would consume more oil initially, as well as the bigger petrols.

This seems to happen very often. Same in my friends 525d. This is the first car I've owned that needs to refill oil between services. But, one litre for 25000 kms is maybe not so much at all...

I've also been told this is quite common in BMWs. No issue with my E92, but my E71 goes through at least a litre every 6 months. In fact I just topped up today.
My dealer lets you drive up whereby they will put in a quick litre for you for $0. Or they give you a bottle to carry with you. |
