New Satellite images option
I just had my 2009 135 in for its first oil change and they gave me 2010 335 as a loaner. In the 2010 noticed there was a new setting under Map options to enable Satellite images. I played around with it and it's pretty cool.
I looked at the Nav System Version and it's 1.4.6. I'm currently running 1.2.5. Any suggestions on how to ask my dealer for an upgrade? |

Well I brought it in for at one point because the Sirius channel names were off and they ended up updating the system software which included new Nav code. That brought me from 1.1.7 to 1.2.5. Just wondering if others have had any luck asking for an software update without having a particular problem.

We are supoosed to get a free upfrade when it isw available due to the Nav showing a gas station in my back yard and being off one town over. I doubt they will give a free upgrade unless you have a problem. Never hurts to ask though if you are a good customer.

barely use satellite imaging, not worth cost unless you have to update your maps. you have to zoom out far to see images, which renders the nav useful for only finding where the closes interstate is.

Also, it's not part of the Map software. I'm already running 2009-2 which is the same version the 2010 car had. It's in the Nav system code itself. Anyway, I'll just ask the tech and see what he says. |

Satellite image will not work if you zoomed... it is kool but not useful..
Do not pay to get SW update.. try to get it for free..plus i noticed that the 1.4.6 is 3 seconds faster when you start the car till you see the map..

I use the sat images as my default and find it extremely handy. I take an extremely busy stretch of highway during my daily commute. When zoomed out to 1mi I can see the highway and traffic color on the map when I get into my car at my office and plan my trip accordingly. I find it very useful.

Just curious if anyone here has upgraded from 1.2.5 to 1.4.6. Our X5 with 1.4.6 has the satellite images as well. It also has additional Sirius menu options and the ability to pause live radio. There is a one hour buffer that allows pause, rewind and fast forward like a DVR/Tivo. I'm not sure if this is simply a software upgrade or reflects a difference in hardware as well.

Do a search in the forums for nav issues with the early software. If you can duplicate an issue, like having the shopping carts in the wrong place, then you can complain that your nav is broken and get a software upgrade.
