10 speaker stereo standard or 6 speaker stereo standard?
The US brochure says it's a 10 speaker stereo...
...but the One-Series Microsite says "With a seven-channel, standard 6-speaker or optional 10-speaker playback matrix, delivering 205 watts of power, and 360-degree surround sound, your all-new 1 Series will sound as furious as it feels. " Hmmmmmmmmmmmm........:iono: |

I'd just like to know...
1. how big the subwoofers are. 2. Where the subwoofers are located. I seem to recall reading a very early article that claimed the subs are in the floor. |

yeah, there is one subwoofer under each front seat and each are connected to the hallow door sill frame to increase resonance. Its the same setup thats in all the Logic7 BMWs, and once the settings are played around with, it sounds AMAZING IMO.

yet another example of a half-hearted effort to get their sh*t together for this roll out.
annoying because i want to believe the microsite when it discusses the brakes ... somebody at bmw needs to get their act together. |

+1 we have established errors already with the brochure (weight digits transposed) ... the microsite hasn't had similar problems as of yet.

I listened to the standard and premium systems in two 328s this Saturday. The Logic7 one definitely sounds a bit better but it's still lacking bottom end. I think I might be better off adding an amp and real sub in the trunk for my $1000+-

My rule of thumb with BMW audio is simple... "always upgrade"
BMW IMO has always fallen short in the Audio department. Yes...they sound good, but not Great.

In Europe, of course... in the USA the 10 speaker system has been the standard base BMW audio system issue since the E46.
It will be some really disgraceful display of cost cutting if BMW decides to offer the Euro base 6-speaker audio system in the USA 1 Series. |

Some of us want to go with aftermarket audio solutions, anyway, and this way we don't have to rip out expensive components. |

Maybe you don't like it, but too many people -including me- pay attention to those little details/standard options at the time of purchasing. Does this will make me choose another car because of the number of speakers? No, but again, at a certain price bracket I expect a certain level of standard equipment. It is simple... And about upgrading the BMW sound system, actually I do like the idea of the Logic 7 (Top HiFi) being optional in the 1 Series and the HiFi (10-speaker) being standard just because it is the HiFi the one that's very easy to upgrade while retaining the OEM HU. All the wiring is there, the location of all the 10 speakers are great, no digital interfacing, so any aftermarket amp/DSP processor and speakers can be installed without any MOST issues. |

Guys..... I don't think the premium sound system that is listed as an option for the 135 is the logic 7 system in the 335 or other cars.... I bought a 2007 X3, and opted for the same 10 speaker premium sound system listed in the catalog for the 1 series. It had the DSP processor, but not the logic 7 processor.
If you look at the options list for the 335 or 5 series, X5, or other higher end BMW's, they all list the higher option sound system as "Logic 7 System". The "Premium Hi-Fi" system that is shown in the scan above is not the same thing. And based on ownership experience, the Hi-Fi system does not sound like the Logic7.. it really sounds bad compared to the new logic 7 systems. I am quite puzzled as to why they aren't using the logic 7 for the new 1 series. Also, why isn't it included in the 135i as the standard system? The logic 7 system is standard on the 335 (Both sedan and coupe).... this just adds to my feeling that the 335 sedan and 135 will only be $2500-3000 difference when similarly equipped cars are compared.. |

How difficult/easy do you think it would be once upgraded to logic 7 to:
a: replace the head unit b: add an amp and i: would it interfere with the operation of iDrive? ii: render the steering wheel buttons inoperable? I really have no idea when it comes to configuring car audio but spent an absolute fortune on the audio in my Rex and would like to use some of it if I can. |
