Am I the only one who isn't that into the LCI side markers?
Just curious. My car is black, and while I am not a huge fan of the blob, I am not sure the chrome boomerang is much better. I debadged the fenders to get rid a little of the busy look there and it seems this would just be putting some of that back. A lot depends on the color of the car though. I don't dislike the LCI, just not sure if it is enough of an improvement to justify doing it. I have thought about getting them and having them painted black to match the car. This would be the best of both worlds, but also pricey.

got some automotive spray paint, and some clear to get rid of the chrome. It really depends on the color of the car. I think black on black would look pretty good. Could also vinyl wrap them for a bit more.

I think both have their own merits and seen them nicer on some colors and okay on others - see a lot of nice tweaks ie: blackout blobs, painted/wrapped LCIs. Perhaps more attention is drawn to the new style, but if I didn't know better, the old could have followed the new and I could see it that way.

I bought mine over a year ago - took them apart to paint and look at them (still) sitting on my workbench every week. Just can't decide to put them on, or what color would be best. I don't want to put chrome on since I don't have any chrome anywhere else.
Probably time to take a picture and put into photoshop and make a decision... |

I could not stomach the white blobs so I blacked them out with film.
Then I went with the LCI markers- De badged and blacked out the side markers. All personal preference.

I have a 2011 35is... do these require anything more than snapping out the old blobs and snapping in the boomerang? Is it DIY or does a shop need to do it? Best place to purchase them?

Easy DIY
With the hood open Get a long blade screw driver and run it thru the fender access port Find the edge of the lamp which has 2 clip style tabs. Locate (sight unseen all by feel) the edge of the tab and gently push on the tab which holds 1 side of the white blob in. Simply get the tab to slightly unsnap and then gently rock and pull out the white lamp out. Disconnect the power connector. NOTE- I connected the new LCI marker to verify operation prior to final install. Install New LCI marker. The new LCI markers have a tab on the tail end that has to be clipped off. IMPORTANT- ONLY PEEL BACK A SMALL PORTION OF THE Double sided TAPE STARTING AT THE HEAD OF THE MARKER SO NOT TO HAVE THE TAPE STICK TO THE CAR BEFORE YOUR ARE 100% READY. Install the large side of the marker in the access hole so the tabs are ready to snap into place. HOLD OFF THE TAIL END with the double side tape until you lined up the tail end even across the panel. Now gently begin to peel the double side tape back until it is completely off then press the marker in place.

Thanks! I was wondering about the tab. Does it "hold" well without it? Also, I see them on ebay and other places for about $140. Is that about right? Again, thanks for the detailed instructions.

The Double Sided Standard 3M Autobody tape holds VERY well. I added a small additional section of tape at the end of the tail for extra holding power. Cost: I Paid $47.49 from Husker Auto Group- a BMW and MB dealer. Total $103.73 with $8.75 freight www.huskerautogroup.com Part # Left Side-BMW Part # 63-13-7-303-243 Right Side-BMW Part # 63-13-7-303-244

Just a mere 7-8 feet of snow. The last plies in the shade just dis-appeared last week. I just broke out the Z for a wash, Zanio wax and drive for the 1st time in 6 plus months.

It holds very well without the tab, as there is foam tape pre-installed on them. I paid around $120 or so shipped when I bought them a few weeks ago. Took less than 5 minutes to install both sides.

My Z4 is blue and I also think the original side maker is more suitable for dark car.
