City driving with a heavy car is really bad on fuel consumption. Take a day trip and drive out of the city and monitor the difference.
Also 800km is still very new for a car. Check again when you reach 3000km, it should get better. |

My diesel took about 1500miles to settle down. Consumption dropped quite steeply in the first 500miles and then less so for the next 1K. Driving style makes a big difference as well, if I self shift the auto it increases the consumption by at least 6-8mpg.

@Cyee
have a look at spritmonitor.de. Here you can see the consumption data of many X1 users, diesel and gasonline. It is an impressive summary of date, not only BMW, but all kind of cars. You can find my consumption under BMW 25i silberx1.City driving is rather consumptive with this kind of cars. |

I have to ask, are your figures correct? You say you used 3 tanks (200l) for 800km. Thats 25l/100km which seems impossibly high (or something is wrong). Also, are you going by what it says on the trip computer, or is it your own calculation? Unless you zero the consumption on the computer as well when you fill up it will give you the overall consumption since the last zero.

Thanks guy for nice help
3 tank around 180 liter as I seen only drive 800+ km and it's show 14.5 l / 100 km is it normal when I brake the car And the rpm will goes up to 1000 or 1500before I could stop it completely. Also the fuel consumption meter will be 20 liter then goes back to zero |

Cyee, I have an 18i as well, and yes it is heavy on fuel. I assume you have auto? - I do about 50/50 highway/city and my average is now about 10.5/100km. I know it's a pain, but what will really help is if you use Steptronic in manual mode. What irks me is that in full auto it hangs on too long on low gears when going up hills - sometimes won't change up till 4000rpm or higher.
My situation is a bit worse as I am at high altitude. The manual mode works quite well. |

Hi Cyee, if you shift the gearlever to the left from D it goes into DS mode i.e. Sport Mode for more performance but still automatic - the dash will display DS. Now while in DS mode, if you flick the gearlever up or down you'll be in Manual mode (the dash will show M and the gear you're in e.g. 2nd gear will show M2) - so now you change gears by yourself - flick up/push to change down, flick down/pull to change up a gear.
Hope that clears it up for you. It will take getting some used to. Also note that when slowing down in Manual mode the gearbox will automatically shift down a gear for you. Happy driving! |

if it shifted down in manual mode, it persist in this gear! In many situations it gears down much to early with the effect, that consumption goes up.
I found, that in manual there is nearly no way to reduce the consumption. The better way is to stay in automatic. When you accelerate give it a short push and then go back. In this way the gear goes up earlier. You can watch it on the actual consumption. |

For my petrol model it makes a big difference to economy, depending on your driving style. EDIT: Actually Silber are you maybe not mistaking DS mode for Manual? Remember Manual is activated when after going into DS mode, you flick the gearlever up or down - the dash display will then show e.g. M2 (for 2nd gear) and not DS anymore. I think you should do both - reset the fuel consumption calculator and visit your dealer. Again, I have to stress that the 18i is a bit underpowered (I would have bought the 18d if it was offered in SA alas), and urban driving is going to increase consumption considerably. |

Hi Cyee.
This is bad even for a petrol model. See my thread on fuel consumption. http://e84.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=531540 |

I know you are very concerned, but sorry, I don't think it would help much by creating more threads. Your threads on fuel consumption:
http://e84.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=539012 http://e84.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=536922 I would suggest going back to the dealer and have it checked out. Make full use of the warranty. It's already paid. |

I've had 17.8 l on my 18i for urban driving in winter conditions. Now the Board Computer shows like 14.5 l per 100 km. However, I suggest you not rely on this indicator.
Worth noting that I rarely spin the engine over 4,000 rpms. I'd rather open service menu (to open the menu, press the trip odometer reset button and, while holding it, insert the key) and check entire mileage / consumption collected by the car for the entire driving period since the last time when your battery was discharged. |
