The X1 with 2.0 turbo will be about 500 lbs less than the 528Xi their getting ready to introduce with the 2.0 turbo. They already said 6.1 0-60 for the X1 with the manual and 2.0 lier turbo so I'll take that over any 3.0 NA. For those that love the 3.0 NA if it's so great why did they already drop it on the X5 this year. No torque! I'll take the 2.0 turbo but the X3 3.0 turbo pushes the price price way out of wack for about 50% of the potential market.

X1 Spotted in Newport Beach, CA
Don't know if this is a common occurrence in the U.S. or not, but I saw an X1 with California "Dist" plates tonight on West Coast Hwy in Newport Beach, California. Does this mean there is hope that it may be arriving here soon?

its really going to come down to performance vs fuel consumption. With the current engines in the X3 its a no brainer to go with the 3.0 turbo, but once the new 2.0 turbo comes out that will change, and when the X1 2.0 turbo comes out that will be a hard decision because its just a tiny bit slower than an X3 3.0 turbo but will get much better MPG and probably be $5K+ cheaper fully loaded. In the US the X1 will kill some sales of the X3 but BMW feels they need to bring it here because of the competition, Infiniti EX, Porsche's new Cajun (which will be smaller than a X3). |

I savor the chance to save a bit of $$ and get a slightly lighter car with a 2.0 turbo. It will be a blast to throw around with the suspension stiffened up.
And I can still haul the kids and dog around. How anyone can say there will not be a market is missing the boat as this is where a lot of dads are headed. |

Bring it over here already!
I am really encouraged by the fact that it is selling like hotcakes in Europe because previously, BMW did not think SUVs were for Europeans.
This model strikes as the common ground for both continents. An enthusiast SAV - not too big - keep it lighter - not too expensive. Dial in the styling and I will be beaming... |

read the newest Motor Trend update - US launch delayed indefinitely - guess the Q3 will beat it to the best market it would have had. Not Happy Again - I feel like BMW has really let us down this time. But what do they care about the US market enthusiasts if they can sell it so well elsewhere

Q3 has not even been announced for US sale yet as far as I know. I know they are considering it however. I would not hold my breath on seeing it until 2012. It might still beat the X1 to market in US, but that's by no means clear yet.
Rumors of further delays past fall for X1 US release have been around for a while. We'll see. To me they are throwing money away by not having this vehicle hear. It's gonna sell like mad. Quote:

I agree and I think this might suggest that they are going to price the X1 with a hefty premium. I really do think that the margins on this vehicle are just not very high especially when compared against the X3, and thus they would rather just sell us all X3s over here. After all, US prices are already very low when compared with the ROW. Making money on the X1, especially with it being produced over sees and subject to the typical currency flucutations, high shipping costs, etc. vs. the X3 being built here on our soil, may be a tough proposition. They know they need to offer the X1 so that they have a presence in the US in this segment (Q3 should be here soon and GLK has been for some time, not to mention RDX and EX). But they are holding off as long as they can, and even after it comes they'd still rather we all just buy those profit-laiden X3s instead.

Yes, I agree. From what I've read, it seems the 3 series is thought to be the most likely to be produced in the US next (though perhaps that would be at an all new plant, I don't know). That said, I would not be surprised to see the next generation X1 produced in SC perhaps, but I am a little doubtful it will happen for the current model.

Sure, from the buyers perspective its disappointing, however from a business angle they just don't need to go through the headache currently. As was said somewhere else, were it to. Be made in the us, then that would remove both transport and capacity, however I imagine tooling up a factory isn't a few week process, especially if it wasn't intended or planned originally. The current design is coming up to what, 2 and a bit years? must be due a refresh - maybe then? |

^^^ Wow. Sounds like they just decided to wait til the LCI.
I think 5k units for the US is not even close to a realistic reflection of US demand. I would say potential for the X1 is easily 20k units per year here if priced at under 40k for a decently equiped 28i. However, they do not want this vehicle eating into X3 28i sales and profit, so they are holding it back as long as they can keep people from jumping to the competition. And since the Q3 is not here right now, and Mercedes GLK, Inifinit EX, and Acura RDX are not exactly burning the sales charts up, they probably have calculated that they don't have to worry about that right now. |

May have to go for an X3 when they switch to the 2.0 turbo N20. I'm hoping it can get 21-22 city and 29-30 hwy. If not I'll get a Countryman S.
