In-line 6 or Tutbo 4 for 2011 Canada X1 28i?
The title says it all, can someone find out if the 28i X1 coming to Canada this spring will have the in-line 6 or the turbo 4. BMW Canada customer service does not have an answer. the dealer I deasl with does not have an answer, on line reports are all over the place....if anyone knows or can get answers from a reliable source, could you please post....Thanks.
Also, previous reports claimed a 25i and a 28i models to break ground in Canada this April....many has been said about the 28i, how about the 25i...any news of the engine under that hood? |

fwiw, I was just at the local dealer here in Vancouver (friend was picking up a new 3) and hidden in the corner was a bronze coloured X1 2.8i. According to the sales guy, it was a 'training' model for the staff to get familiarized with, and not available to the general public yet.
A few nuggets - the 2.8i is the Turbo I4, and it will only come with the 8-spd slushbox for canada. No 6MT in the works. Nor the diesel, for that matter. Size wise, it was actually bigger than I was expecting. Passenger cabin space was virtually identical to the 3-series sedan, although the trunk did look a tad small. Looked good; although not a big fan of the bronze colour. |

also, did you ask if this is the only engine variant or other engines will be offered as well. |

28i as in the European version makes sense. I would still be very surprised if up front BMW would make a specific X1 powertrain for North America, although if the demand is strong,it might come up eventually.

Sorry, didn't ask about those questions. Didn't think he would have been able to divulge any pricing info just yet. Other than the no diesel option, there wasn't any info about the other powerplants.

Read today that the Canadian X1 starts at $38,500 but that's all that has been released. There are two X1's at the Toronto Auto Show. One in brown.

I found a TwinPower Turbo N20B20 under the hood/bonnet. No surprise. See next post for the pics.

Pics from Toronto Auto Show
Couple of pics. One interesting thing is that this year's supply of the new X3's are almost sold out.

Not sure if it will be the same as in NA but the difference here in the UK, like for like, is around £4000 ($6500).

The X3 28i starts at $41,900 and the 35i at $46,900 Cdn. The 28i only has 240 HP 'tho. and also less torque than the X1. But the difference between the X1 at $38,500 and the X3 at $41,900 would be very, very attractive to a lot of people.
