Any X1 35i owners with preventative maintenance advice?
I recently purchased a used 2014 X1 35i with X drive and 60k miles on it. I absolutely love it and I am looking for recommendations for preventative maintenance. I love the V6! I live in Minnesota and looking forward to driving it this winter.
I have been reading a lot of post on this site and it appears the 4 cylinder turbo engines are more common in these X1s. Most of the discussion on this board seem more focused on that engine. That being said- are there any glaring known issues I should be aware of with my inline 6? What are some things I should do before I hit 100k? I plan on doing new plugs at 70k. Anything else? Thanks |

60K is about the time that many start to consider servicing the transmission and differential - even though BMW claims those are "lifetime" fluids. I don't like the idea of "lifetime" fluids, so that's around the time I plan on servicing my trans and diff.

You're right, there are a lot more 4 cyl's than the 6 on here, as BMW made many many more of the 4's in the X1.
Plug are a good idea, as above mentioned the fluids at 60/70k miles. If you have a stock charge pipe, I would do a inspection of it, and make sure there doesn't look to be any small cracks forming. Plenty of people blow the OEM charge pipe at the most inconvenient time. I replaced mine, because the $100 charge pipe was worth the piece of mind being stranded and calling for a tow somewhere. |

Also, transfer case fluid. Check oil filter housing for oil leaks, ( it's going to happen), belt and idler pulley if it shows flat spots ( from leaking oil) or wear. My understanding is a belt failure can actually be fatal on the N55 engine.

Enjoy the 35i. Get a metal charge pipe (VSRF is fine), if you want more fun get JB4 (or other tune) and a downpipe ("fun" install). Tuned, the car is faster than many stock american muscle cars. I've seen the looks from camaro and other owners as I accelerate quicker from a light. It resembles "WTF WAS THAT"

VSRF might be fine, but the ARM motorsports one is cheaper, and the customer service is great! |

Just had to replace my oil filter housing gasket along with several other items. $1000 for the gasket repair, another $1000 for tension pulley, radiator flush, oil change, new belts, new plugs, and some other misc items. My 2014 X1 35i has 68k miles

Walnut blasting used to be the rage with N54 crowd. Is it still trendy with N55s?
Apart from the N55 block, I think everything that applies to the x28i applies to x35i too. Well OK the 8spd vs 6spd tranny. I think they have similar service intervals. |

N54's are done every 30,000 - 40,000 miles. I had my N55 done at 50,000 and it didn't need it. I would wait until at least 85,000 before doing it. I personally will wait until 100,000 before I do it on the X1.

Before I bought my car (used with 60k miles), I had BMW perform a pre-purchase inspection. A leaking oil filter housing gasket was all they found and they quoted the repair at ~ $950 . I had the seller (Mercedes dealer) replace it before sale. |

I just had my airbag recall completed, so I let them change the oil while it was there. They called and said the oil filter housing gasket needed to be replaced, quoted me $750. I told them no thanks, the car is parked in the same spot every night and has never leaked a drop of oil. And the maintenance minder has never shown anything in the entire life of the car but 100% full. What a scam because alot of people would just say yes, go ahead.
