Hi Maciej,
Photos look pretty good to me and some of the best subject presented I've seen. Interested in your reply to BeemerX1 - PLUS. Was the bottom shinier bumper originally Silver including the sides? If so how was it painted. Mine has Silver Sections Front and Rear and I want to Blacken them. Can you show picture of your K&N Filter installed. Because of tightening regulations people are leaving the CAT./DPF and just putting a bit bigger pipe from them to the back without the muffler. Some say you need the muffler for some back back pressure. Maybe your MM-Performance can help with a comment about this, thanks. I'm looking at getting the same style done at Exhaust Shop, but before they install the optional back muffler, I will see how it sounds without, then make a decision. Keep in touch with all your detailed changes. Thanks. |

The 4 Cylinder 20d is also bit more power 25d and in the U.S. I believe 28d in the 3 Series.
Cant offer MPG but my 20d gets Max. 7L/100Km's, City and Max.5L/100Km's Highway. Recent trip away, mostly 110 KPH Freeways got 4.6L/100Km's overall. |

16d = 116hp
18d = 143hp 20d = 184hp (with chip tuning he will go to 25d values) 23d = 204hp (replaced by the 25d) 25d = 218hp Here in Belgium that is. Not every engine has MT/AT, sdrive or xdrive option. Depending this setups "on paper" it has 4.9-5.9L/100Km's. Concerning the exhaust, on the stock diesel you won't gain power removing muffler or DPF, however the sound is better and when you go for chip tuning you do benefit from it. (My DPF and muffler has inox tubing in it, DPF and EGR valve or written out in the chip) It doesn't need back pressure, the engine breaths better. I don't think the muffler is a bottle neck, maybe just for noise (inside it is had chambers so the air must zig zag true them) but I'm no fan of a DPF, for now they look if the DPF is under the car and the CO values or even good without a DPF. My 23d is on 10.1L/100Km's on average. (I was on 10.9 for a long time before I did the engine tuning and had my lighter rims.) AWD takes extra consumption and it eats power. I do many short distances and when the engine is nicely driven warm I do have a heavy foot and drive sporty. On freeway I do 130-140KM/H most of the time when driving calm. I like my comfort so I use my AC (or open sunroof) or heated seats when I think it is needed. Same counts for the "S" position on the AT. (Crazy, when foot down in S, she goos to 6th gear around 180Km/H, when you hear and feel the shift it say's "you lost your drivers license a couple of seconds ago") Disclaimer: The above is in theory, I don't drive to fast. |

Can you feel any performance gain from the exhaust system ? Any changes to the fuel consumption ? I'm planning to install the Supersprint exhaust on my 2.0d. Thanks |

GTony, the bottom parts that are black are because the model is a sport line, the silver bits come with either the Xline or the base model (texturized black sides).
The filter looks pretty well the same as your stock filter as what they've done is just a drop-in filter. In all honesty, I don't recommend oiled filters as they require constant cleaning of the MAF or you destroy it. I cooked 3-4 of them in my old Ford Contour. Changing a muffler won't really affect back pressure or performance much, it's mostly just sound. If you're looking for more power, look into a down pipe. Hopefully some of this helps you out.

I would love to see the video of the sound with this supersprint rear exhaust. Did you have to cut diffuser to fit that twin exhaust tips?
I'm planning to do sports air filter and pipe kit for turbo that replaces DPF for performance gain.

Hi everyone,
Maybe someone can help. A few days ago I went to my regular Exhaust Shop and was suggested to replace the rear muffler, on my X1 2.0d, with a free flow BMW muffler made by Zeuna Starker part no. 1 708 700. It is off a BMW sedan, the guy doesn't know which model though. I agreed to replace the original muffler, thinking would get performance increase. At first, around town it felt it has more torque and mpg a little bit decreased. But, when I went to freeway the mpg was more than 50% increased. So after just 2 days, I put the original muffler back. But today, during a short run in the freeway I found the mpg did not come back to where it was. Tomorrow I'm going to BMW dealer to get the car check. Has anyone experience this ? Or have some advice on what might have happened during the time I was using the free flow muffler ? Thank you guys |

Changing it muffler (or full exhaust line) will not change the performance or fuel consumption. Minimal, maybe but not that you will notice.
I am talking about a 2000cc diesel here (no chip tuning mentioned). Doubt it if you would notice on the 35i but I'm not sure how good (of bad) the stock exhaust is. |

BimmerX1, changing the rear muffler did change the fuel consumption.
On the same freeway and same distance, 2 weeks before changing the muffler the fuel con on the obc was 21.7 ave con. After changing was 7.1 ave con The strange thing is fuel con increased is worst when driving on the free way |

Hi BeemerX1,
My figures also with AC on. Your 10.1L/100 Km's seems high at first but with that speed and driving style I can relate to the extra usage. Do they allow Lap Tops in the Jail Cells where you are, so you can answer your emails, Ha Ha. |

Also read about oil filters and wont be using those. I saw somewhere something about Diesels needing some back pressure, which is the reason I questioned a muffler delete. Anyway that's another story. Will be leaving my CAT/DPF on and just doing what I said on 1'st thread. You can get complete new exhaust system for Diesels that include better down pipe, better performance CAT/DPF that will give you a bit extra HP but cost big bucks. I like the Supersprint System, they also do without muffler, but I like the idea of being able to work with an exhaust shop for custom job and being able to hear both options. |

GTony,
No jail time for speeding here. If they catch you, then you just pay the ticket. Maximum on highway is 120km/h here so as long if you don't go over 160km/h you keep you drivers license (and your car, judge could take if away). For the exhaust, you don't need to buy a full (line) exhaust for a diesel. Removing the DPF is more healthy for the engine en off course when broken a new DPF cost like 1500 euro's. I see people coming over to the tuning schop with a Supersprint (or other brand) and they want more/better sound or custom exhaust tip (or 2nd one). Inox tubing instead of the DPF and rear muffler will get you a better sound, otherwise both (or 1 of them) will kill the sound. I have the twin-turbo diesel, stock it isn't a silent car (dis-benefit for most people) so can't compare with 2.0d. I opted for inox tubing instead of DPF and muffler but it is the inner side so both are still under the car 'for looks', stock exhaust tip was fine for me so I didn't change. No problems for the technical inspection, all stuff is there and measurement of CO is still good way in the limits. Not sure how your car will sound or how the technical inspection is there but good luck to get the result you want. I hope you get what you pay for.
