picture of space under trunk floor
Hi All,
New X1 owner here. Just bought a 2013 X1 35i. Does anybody here mind posting a photo of what the space under the trunk floor looks like (when you lift the cover and see the battery)? I'm not sure if the car I bought is missing something. Shouldn't there be a jack and some tools in there? |

You have run flat tires so no spare tire thus no need for a jack. You do get a small screw driver thingy and the tow hook. That is it (IIRC) - have to go look as I added some other tools.

There should be a small bag (shaving kit size or so) somewhere back there. It contains some rather useful tools needed for towing. No jack, no spare and no lug wrench.

BMWs haven't included jacks for a while now. They do sell, over the parts counter, a jack kit.

I've ordered the OEM jack and lug wrench, plus a 12v compressor and a plug kit. It's my intention to replace the runflats eventually. The fittings under the floorpan likely make the factory jack the best bet; it's compact in the bargain.
BTW, is the emergency triangle supposed to be standard, or must it be ordered separately? Moon |

You mean some flares? If the fuses are smoking and burning you may have more serious issues than you think. And in which cases the flares may be moot as your car may soon be one big flare.

I just spent a good bit of time trying to figure out how to fit a set of old jumper cables in the trunk. not a lot of space under that false floor piece. ugh.

Both my grandads were railroaders; 'fusee' is RR talk for ordinary flares. Just one of those things I picked up.
There's actually a fair amount of space to stash things under the trunk floor; both in the lowest area by the battery and the compartmented section above it. The only complaint being a full trunk will complicate access to any of that. The two side wells behind the wheel arches are useful as well. Moon |
