Finally picked up my wheels and coilovers tonight.....wish it was spring so I could get on with installation!
Wheels are Work VS-XX. "Porsche Gold" centers with polished lips. 19x9 et26 fronts, 19x10.5 et29 rears. Crappy pics of one wheel (one of the rears) taken with the phone before it got dark out :- Got lip? KW V1's appear to use a regular E9x damper body with an external sleeve to increase from 52mm to 57mm OD. Will have to check the spring numbers to see if the X1 specific items are different from the E9x xDrive ones. Last edited by skylineguv; 11-06-2013 at 03:06 PM.. |

Even though I've already ordered the performance grilles, I decided to have a friend wrap the outer (chrome) ring of the stock grilles in brushed black. Really happy with the way it turned out and will likely keep them this way

Little by little things are getting done. The previous weekend (a long weekend for us Canadians) saw the suspension and summer wheel fitment fun. This weekend was tint and a little more de-chroming.
Now I'm not entirely sure why, but Canadian M-Sports have the lower window trim in chrome/satin silver as opposed to the black "shadow line" I've seen elsewhere. It looks totally out of place in my opinion, especially when the roof rails are black etc, but hey-ho, it's black now......along with the mirror caps. Also, with the lightest tint I could find, some toning down of the orange reflector in headlights and the turn signals in the mirrors. |

That just looks perfect to my eye.
What's the drop on the V1s? How does it compare with the stock M Sport setup? What did you wrap the grill with? |

I'm pretty much at the minimum drop in the rear right now, which is around 2.5" lower than stock. It surprised me a little to be honest as I wasn't expecting the minimum drop to be quite that aggressive. That said, it's where I wanted to be so it isn't a major concern. You could drop it another 1" or so on the collars if you were so inclined.
The fronts are also around 2.25" to 2.5" lower than stock, but could go higher if necessary. There's still a good 1" or more of drop available, again if you were so inclined. Bear in mind that I'm running larger than OEM tires (approx 1/2" larger in diameter) - Michelin PSS 245/40/19 in the front and 275/35/19 out back, so the wheel wells look a little more "full" than they might otherwise do. I've always been happy with KW's, especially how refined they are for the level of control given. It's actually less choppy now than it was with the stock M-Sport suspension and 18" RFT's. The grille surround was wrapped with vinyl. I think it's Oracal "brushed metallic black satin", but I'm fairly sure 3M do a similar material. |

Hey Mark,
Car looks awesome. Looks even "awesomer" in person! Me and the wifey test drove an X1 28i yesterday. I absolutely loved it! Still researching about it, but leaning towards actually signing on the dotted line tomorrow. |

When moving out of the 335 I was honestly on a bit of a downer initially, thinking about buying an SUV, having driven a few of the smaller ones previously. Then I drove the X1 and realised that small SUV's could be enjoyable! Are you looking at a specific line/spec/colour? |

hiya, what size tires are you running? are you rubbing in the rear inner arch of the fender? I'm lowered on 20x10 et38 with 275/30/20 in the rears and it rubs when making hard turns or bouncing on the freeway. Did you shave the plastic on the fender? thanks

I don't see how you guys can get in and out of such a small vehicle. Reminds me of my old Z4MC. Just horrible legroom, etc.
I had to go with an X5 because the other X platforms had no room. I am 6'1" and 190 pounds. My cousin has an X3 and its horrible with room. The X5 has an extra 6 inches on the sides.

Mark,
I'm stealing a few of your ideas for mine when I get back. Did you just buy tint from crappy tire for the lights? Or did you get some from your buddy?

Sorry man, completely forgot to respond to this the other day. Got my buddy to do the partial headlight and turn signal tint for me. That said, it shouldn't be too difficult if you wanted to do it yourself. It's head/tail light specific stuff mind you, so it's a bit thicker than true window tint.
