BMW Revises Recommended Oil Change Intervals to 10,000 Miles for 2014+ X1
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW Revises Recommended Oil Change Intervals to 10,000 Miles for 2014+ Models BMW has changed its long time recommended oil change mileage intervals for all 2014 models and beyond. The changes apply to all vehicles produced from July 2013 on. Previously, BMW recommended a 15,000 mile / 24 month Condition Based Service interval, but as of July 2013, the new basic interval will be every 10,000 miles / 12 months. This applies to both gasoline and diesel models. The Z4 roadster, M5/M6 and ActiveHybrids have some special recommendations, which you can see in the announcement and charts below. |

XI produced in April 2013?
Will BMW now give you free oil changes every 10,000 miles?
My 2014 X1 was produced in April, is there a physical difference in my X1 that would not qualify it and or make it necessary to do the oil change at 10,000 miles instead of 15,000 miles? |

Makes sense since (almost?) every engine uses turbo's..

so what happens if you own a late '13 or early '14 and you follow the 15,000 service interval and you develop engine problems down the line? Sounds like BMW just opened themselves to a huge class action lawsuit.....

I don't know, but I would never drive for 15,000 miles before changing the oil, no matter what BMW says. Changing more often won't hurt (other than the wallet).

It's what I did with our previous 1er, just paid for every other oil change at 7,500 miles. Our X1 gets so few miles that the annual oil change is under 10k, so this change doesn't really effect our car.

I just hope that BMW doesn't reset the counter. I.e.when I pay for my 5k oil change next week, they better not adjust the next free change from 15k to 20k...

They are setting themselves up for so much backlash and problems at the dealer level they are going to regret. How many pissed off owners with the exact same engines are going to go in and raise hell about this. They already pulled this shit with Mini a couple of years ago when the owners manual stated "oil must be changed every 12 months" and they claimed "free maintenance"and then you went in and they wouldn't pay for it until the light came on. I had this happen and then BMW gave in after a few months and started paying at 12 months. I can't imagine them doing this now unless they have noticed some engine wear or failures. Everyone should go to their dealer and insist on free changes at 12 months or 10,000 miles. I believe they already do 12 months but not 10,000 miles. I'm fortunate I drive less than 10,000 per year but they will have to change this policy to include older cars or they will create a lot of bad will with long time owners like myself with 14 BMW's bought.

Cool, I just sold mine last year, with 143k miles to a guy in Delaware. I thought I was buying a Cayman to replace it but the new one threw a wrench in that plan. The X1 has been enjoyable, sort of a more functional version of our previous 135i. Good luck with the search and thanks for your service.
