Cosmetic Mod Advice
I need advice/opinions, I just picked up my 2013 Mineral Grey X1 M-Sport. I had the dealer take off all the badges except the roundels and put in the black M grills too. Next week I am getting the windows tinted 25%. I am considering completing the look and getting the 18" M-Line wheels painted glossy black. What do you guys think? I have asked family members and they say I may be that young kid (23) with his "pimp" car.
Here is a link of black wheels on a mineral grey 3 series with black grills too. http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=705478 |

For most people, black wheels are a love it or hate it affair. But for me I can't draw a blanket conclusion. Sometimes I like them, sometimes I don't. Car color, trim color, wheel size, spoke style, etc all factor in. I briefly considered having my wheels powder coated matte black (Le Mans Blue exterior), but decided to hold off. My wife loves black wheels, and I'm currently looking for just the right option for her Ibis White Q5. Ultimately the only thing that matters is how you feel about it. If you like the look, go for it. You can always go back. But if you decide to do it, do it right by having them professionally powder coated. And of course we'll want to see pics.

I had black wheels (replicas) on my E46. I think your X1 will look good with the dark tint and black wheels. That 3-series in the link looks a little awkward with no tint IMO.

I am on the fence about black wheels. I think the easiest way to decide will be to buy a can of plastidip and go to town on two of your wheels. Afterwards take lots of pics and compare the look between the two. That route might cost you a couple of hours time and 20 bucks and save you from a big headache if you paint your rims and don't like it.

Look at this thread. This is my X1, tinted windows, with original wheels vs winter black wheels. Maybe it will be helpful...
