Poor quality centre console - XBimmers

I was at Frankfurt Motor show and noticed how poor the center console was.

Must be one of the lower specced units,don't see any idrive on it. I guess all the scratches must have come from those visitors trashing it.

Yeesh. Reminds me of that plastic Acura uses in the old TSX. Also, those seats look like cloth. Is that the lowest model X1?

Yes it is.
On Saturday, I was at my local dealer to look closer at X1
I think the X1 it's very close to the 1-series inside - looks cheap.
For example the plastic above the instrument panel (part of dashboard)is made from separate part of hard plastic. In the 3-series there is soft nice plastic in one piece.

i saw this also in frankfurt.
also @ X1 presentation by the local dealer. they said bmw has to save money.

i think this is the wrong way

Saw it in the saloon the other day, it does not look good quality down there... save money??? how about saving our money?the car is well priced till you see the options list, almost everything is on the options list, which does not make it well priced in the end.

i've been complaining about the quality of the interior since I owned E46 ZHP. Plastic parts inside used to get scratched easily. Heck, for paying 42K I would expect little more scratch-resistant surfaces. If the quality of the interior on the X1 is similar or worse, I am going to bypass it.

Normally the mid-cycle facelift is just that --- cosmetic new lights front and rear and sometimes bumpers if they are feeling frisky.

I tested an X1 with red electra cloth seats and felt the interior was a step down from my cloth interior 3 series, however the showroom also had an X1 with the design pack with leather and myself and my wife felt it was comparable to other BMW interiors in the showroom. I ordered an X1 2.3d with red leather and perhaps the centre console has been improved now as I found it satisfactory?
