I get what you are saying an agree with you 99% Frankly I am still considering using spacers myself.
That said, my career has primarily been based on failure analysis & probability of failure. Component count is one the single biggest drivers of increased chances of failure. In this case you are adding components in one of the most critical locations of a car. So while I agree there really isn't anything wrong with quality spacers that are used correctly, I will always recommend using the fewest components possible first. With wheels, this means if you ultimately want an offset of ET25, you are better served with an ET25 wheel than a ET30 wheel with a 5mm spacer

All things being equal I rather avoid adding unnecessary unsprung weight to the car. Just my old autocross days mindset. |

Anthracite. If the bronze weren't matte, I'd consider going bronze...

There's a group buy in the E9x forum right now - $200 off the set of four.

I REALLY wanted an 18x9 ET20 but they unfortunately don't make it and a 10mm spacer doesn't worth with the hub depth of the X1 unless I machine down the hub itself some which not going to do for obvious reasons. My only other option was to spend over $3k and get some custom made BC Forged wheels but I wasn't about to go that route seeing as I get new wheels once a year (I might need to see a therapist )

true! my wheels are 8x18 square and weigh 27lbs each. I was happy shedding some weight by swapping out the tires for non-runflats, though.

I want to put more tire under the car - I think at 225, a 300hp vehicle (which will soon be 350-375hp) is a bit under-tired. Shedding 5lbs a wheel would be another welcome benefit. I trust APEX wheels to be high enough quality to stand up to DD and the occasional auto-x based on the huge number of sets being used by enthusiasts. |

I got the X1 s28i M sport with 8x18 and 9x18 wheels. I put on 3.5% smaller diameter Michelin PS4S and just don't lose traction anymore. Of course it can't be daily driver in US where it snows. 255/40r18 Pirelli P7 runbflats on rear never were really good traction, but ok for cornering.

At 245/45r18 that gears car up about 3%.
Your speedo will be closer to right. You filled gap better at slight acceleration expense. I geared down with stock wheels to 255/35r18, and it's few mph faster in quarter mile acceleration. |

I already have my track tires on a set of these and am really thinking of getting a second set to put my summer tires on.

I've got black, so I would probably opt for anthracite if I buy new. But I'm checking around with my local BMWCAA and NASA Racing folks to see if anyone has a used set first (that's how I got my first set).

I just bought a set of 18x9 ET 42 Apex Arc 8 Gloss Black for my X1
https://philstireservice.com/shop/apex-arc-8-bmw/ I’m running 245/40 R18 tires I love the way they look. I also just put H & R lowering springs on it yesterday. Last edited by grjoe; 07-03-2019 at 11:10 PM.. Reason: Typo |
