Wide tires for 19" M Pkg wheels
Hello fellow X1 drivers;
I'm here to find out, who has different tire size than the factory one, or for those that have wider tires. Well My X1 came with: (Pirelli P Zero Run Flat)[220 AA A] 225/40R19 in the front {26.1" overall diameter} 255/35R19 in the rear {26" overall diameter} I want to put wider tires on those (8" front and 9" rear wheels) but so far, I am interested in: (Bridgestone Turanza ER 300 RFT)[320 A A] 245/40R19 in the front {26.7" overall diameter} 275/35R19 in the rear {26.5" overall diameter} So I was told by a tire expert that the "overall diameter" is a factor and in this case. That the difference between from and rear height can't be much (in this case is (0.2 on the possible new ones). Now Now being that they are wider (20mm added), I wonder if someone has 245 in the front and 275 in the back? Please share specs and pictures if possible. Also, if someone has 20" wheels please share specs and pictures if possible |

I plan on running those exact same sizes as soon as the Pirellis on our X1 are toast. The diameter difference is negligible and shouldn't cause any issues. Same for the minor differences in height and width. Should fit fine and give a little more sidewall to reduce ride harshness.

Why so much tire? Looks? It's a ~250 bhp car afterall.
Just one word of caution, 245s on 8" wheel and 275s on 9" wheels is right at the recommended minimum widths (which isn't a big deal), but be prepared to lose some steering feel and turn-in sharpness. Going that wide on relatively narrow wheels, I'd want put a pretty stiff tire on there, as a softer one is just going to make that aspect worse. How about a 235/265 combo?

You will certainly lose some steering feel and sharpness. Plus don't forget increase in unsprung weight. For AWD vehicles.... it's hip to be square. I read that BMW's transfer case has low tolerances (vs other AWD cars) when it comes with tire diameter differences. |

1. Moved to 20" wheels (shorter sidewall, helps turn-in); and 2. Moved to 9" wheels up front and 10" wheels in the back So nothing like what the OP is talking about.

I guess the M sport staggered tires are marshmallows that wider tires would actually be an improvement on steering response and turn-in. Go wide if you are traction limited. Note that with wider rears you will induce more FWD-like understeer. It's ok if oversteer freaks one out. |

Just about his entire post is about wanting to run 245/275 on his stock 19s, and asking for opinions on that setup. That's the setup we commented on, handling wise. He asked for pics of people running 20s, that's all. Regardless, it doesn't change the point. The fact that you moved to 20s and wider wheels were critical pieces of information to go along with your allegedly improved turn-in given the context of the conversation (turn-in moving to wider tires on his current wheels).

Hmmm Pussy on Mars eh...? Well who doesn't want to see that..?
When I was looking for my setup (sorry only on 19" diameter) I read that it has more to do with circumference of the wheel/tire set up rather than just the diameter. In Europe the tire setup has to be within 3% of each other by law and I believe BMW require it to be a little tighter than that (I read 1% on a European forum, just wish I could remember the name of it... ). odieman23,
Recommended 8" MIN.215 - IDEAL 225/235 - MAX. 245/255. 9" MIN.235 - IDEAL 245/255 - MAX. 265. Ry3k3r, They say to Stay within 3% of the ORIGINAL Tire Diameter. When you have, or change to STAGGERED Fittings they have to be less than 1% of each other, which i think Includes xDrives for all fittings. You can Mix and Match Various Combo's on these. www.tirerack.com - www.1010tires.com - www.willtheyfit.com Hope this further helps. |

Running 19s. 235/35 on 8.5" 35mm ET front, and 275/35 on 9.5" rears had choice of two ETs, and chose wrong @ ET15. They stick out a little. If I can just curb the rears, maybe I'll have an excuse...

I went from stock 18x8 RFs, and got Conti Extremes,(not RFs) and they ride better than stock, not that it's much of an improvement. Last edited by zeevette; 05-04-2017 at 04:34 PM.. |

How does it drive in terms of comfort and handling? Can you take a shot from the rear, down low, to see how the 275s look from behind?

28mm difference is 1.1" on overall diameter not just 0.1". That's a huge difference if that's true. Isn't that bad for the transfer case?

Read my response. I already said I may be wrong about the front tire's aspect ratio, so I checked. 245.40/19 FR and 275-35/19 rears. .1" difference.
