E84 Extended Maintenance Plan
So I got my 2013 X1 M-Sport 28i back in November of 2012 and have about 25,000 miles on it now and it is my first Bimmer. Apparently at the time of purchase I bought a 6 year/100k mile extended full warranty, but not an extended maintenance plan.
What is everyones thoughts on those and if it is necessary? Not 100% sure what all it would cover that my warranty wouldn't cover. |

Off the top of my head it covers brakes (rotors/pads), oil changes, wiper blades, cabin filters, drive belts and IIRC spark plugs (at 100k miles). Probably some other things that I've forgotten but how much is your dealership charging for this plan?

Most people never get their money back from extended warranties. That's why they're offered.

You have maintenance covered until November 2016 so it is way too early to bother. Basically it's going to be two years: 2 oil changes, 2 wiper blades, once brake disks, pads and fluid flush, spark plugs.
I am not sure but I think warranty requires to do all maintenance in a shop (either BMW or independent) and you can't DIY. My choice for extended warranty and maintenance is DIY. Have a laptop setup with latest ISTA Programing and Diagnostic (all manuals included) and tools left from my previous out of warranty car. Also non BMW branded OEM parts. |

Just to put things in perspective a dealership brake job with OEM parts is 700 PER AXLE meaning 1400 in brakes. I do alot of miles so for me Its worth it. (18k p/ year) because im going to get my moneys worth out of it. People who don't do the miles should do their own maintenance. For big problems I would use the dealership or a trusted shop (for me the closest that I trust is Turner Motorsport) for diagnostics/repairs if I cant do them myself. Just my 2 cents on it. |

It really depends on your personal situation. Do you drive a lot? Are you willing to do some maintenance yourself?

As said, above it all comes down to the number of miles one drives. The more you drive the more likely the extended warranty/maintenance is worth it.
The OP is putting about 10k miles on the car a year. IMHO not enough miles per year to justify it. That said make sure you bring the car in Oct 2016. |

Lets put it this way. Cost of MP 2 yrs additional 50k is 2100.
Brakes-$1400 front and rear Oil Changes- assume value line so $80-130 and youll hit it 5 times 400-650 Brake flush + Microfilter- 150ish and youll hit that twice Plugs at 100k - 280 Total:2380-2630 If you do the mileage It will make this worth it, save you a couple hundred |

So for the average person who does around 13,500 miles per year then it's a bad deal. |

13,500 would mean roughly 81K in the time period which would mean you would be less 1-2 Oil changes, possibly 1 Brake Flush and Microfilter, and plugs as well. You would lose a little money. The upside if you bought it anyways, is not paying for maintence at the dealer when you go in. (Does spending the 130-1400 on a visit for an oil change or brakes on the high side sound ok?) Its subjective at that level but if you do 10k a year that should be an INSTANT no. Anything under 70k for the 6 years doesnt seem logical to me.
