Dumb Question: Nav/Media Screen
Hey, all. Contemplating ditching my MCS for a X1 and had a question that I probably just overlooked the answer to. Aside from getting Nav, is there any other option/package that gets one the screen in lieu of the storage box? I don't care for nav, but it'd be nice to have the screen for mp3 tags and such.

Erg.....that sucks. Do the tags scroll along on the radio screen?

I think that's basically how the Z4M went.

My suggestion is to get the BMW Assist w/Enhanced Bluetooth. Then get a ProClip mount for your smartphone or iPod. This is the setup we have in our 128i.

j/k It's not that bad, just dated.I'm fine w/ the storage box, but it would have been nice to have the screen and not fork out for nav. Google maps on my phone is hard to beat. Currently debating a Sport vs M-sport line X1....for the money, it seems the latter is the better option. Aside from the larger/thicker side and thigh bolsters, my only other requirement is heated seats and, in lieu of a 6-sp manual, paddle shifters. It sounds like the paddle shifters would require a custom build w/ careful attention to what is optioned out. Conversely, it seems that they (the paddles) can be retrofitted fairly easily for a couple hundred bucks.

As I believe you know, you must get Nav to get the screen and iDrive on the X1. I believe this is the case with any Exx series. The Fxx have a screen and iDrive even without Nav. The business radio can support iPod USB control but the interface is clunky and downright dangerous to use while driving.
ProClip and Bluetooth is the best way to go if you don't want Nav. |

You get sport seats with either Sport or MSport lines. Both also have options for paddle shifters. The Sport line has an advantage of supporting heated steering wheel while the M Sport steering wheel is thicker.

Yeah, that's what I gathered, but I was still holding out on hope. Thanks for crushing it.
j/k One of the local dealerships had a X5 courtesy vehicle that had no nav, but the screen. Different beast, but I clung to that. I would probably just do what I do now w/ my MCS and keep a compact thumbdrive dedicated for mp3's and keep it plugged into the USB port. That's what I currently use for playing mp3 in the car. I keep a mp3 disc in the car with the mark-IV nav. My coupe came with the thicker steering wheel and oh is it nice. Other steering wheels feel anemic compared to it. Not having ever had a heated steering wheel before, I wouldn't miss it. The M-sport line seems to have the better price since you at least get a differently tuned suspension (maybe a few different bits? probably not). As much as I like the front bumper/fascia, paying for aesthetics doesn't interest me. I'm a bit disappointed that the Sport Line doesn't have a different suspension setup. Thanks for the inputs, btw.

I'm not sure the business radio supports USB thumb drives, I've only used this feature with iDrive. iPod input with this radio requires Y-Cable (analog audio input).
Make sure you order BMW Assist to get Enhanced Bluetooth. I ordered the M Sport package myself. I didn't get it in our 328i or 128i and regretted it specifically for the steering wheel. Last edited by nospam; 12-30-2012 at 02:55 PM. |

It looks like you have to have iDrive for bluetooth streaming:

I think iDrive is worth it, but that's just me. |

Thread jacking my own thread.
Do the stock halogens not have angel eyes/corona rings? I'm guessing not. If it matter, I ask wrt a 28, not the 35 (if it matters).
