Paddle shifters update (M package only)

Ok Guys,
I just had a call from BMW. GEt this:
They admit the web site has a mistake... LOL
was apologetic to me and thanked me for pointing it out LOL

They ask me what kind of compensation I wanted as they DO NOT retro fit the shifters after the car has been built.

I gave them a $$amount with the given of my dash board problem. They said they would get back in touch with me with a decision or rebuttal amount.

Time will only tell !

This should hopefully not cost the dealer a penny, and expenses should be billed to BMW. So, they should do whatever it takes to make the customer happy.
Fingers crossed for you!

They are so full of it. Of course it can be retrofitted. Think about it.

I would demand that they give me the car that I ordered AND compensate me for having to go through this hassle. Don't settle for any less. This is pathetic!!!

Hmm it's only a $120 option but they can't retrofit it? I can't imagine it requires a new transmission or anything like that. Just a new steering wheel and software, right? Poor BMW really screwed the pooch on this one.

A bit late to the forum to the Paddle Shifter's discussion. There's an all black- no chrome trim at the bottom- M steering wheel that comes with paddle shifters for the M Sport Line with the M logo? It's not the steering wheel pictured in the regular Sport line that's black with chrome paddle shifters and chrome trim at the bottom with no M logo? Or is it that you just want the Sport Line steering wheel with paddle shifters in your M Sports Line vehicle? Thanks!

Looks like that's $360 for the SMG LCI paddles which seems reasonable.

So, it's not that BMW can't do it; it's that they won't do it.

Exactly. They absolutely, most definitely can retrofit a steering wheel with paddle shifters. These cars are built to have interchangeable parts at this level - we're not talking about sawing a hole in the roof (which they can also do BTW if needed) we're talking about a steering wheel w/shifters vs without. Worst case scenario they would need to ship a new wheel equipped with the paddles to the dealer along with any associated wiring/electronics changes and perform the swap.

Them saying they "CANT" is them saying they "WONT" and to me that's unacceptable. You ordered the car as stated, they need to make it right AND compensate you for this hassle.

Or, you can start a website and tell everyone about the "ultimate experience" you have had buying a BMW. How would they like that?

Don't back down, you will get what you want...AND the retrofit.

Sorry for the mistake on the web site, I will see what we can do.

I told him I wanted the $2500 back for the M sport package or a new car ordered.

Yup, removed from the default M configuration and you can't even add it to the M package if you wanted to. Very clever, BMW.

Not to piss on everyone's parade but the reason I followed up with my dealer to make sure the paddle shifters were ordered was because the BMW website would never show the paddle shifters when I would build it on the website. I hope everyone gets what they want out of this and yes BMW was wrong. I doubt there are many complaints only because they have not sold many yet so don't assume they are getting many complaints. I seriously doubt more than 20-30 max because there really is only 4-5 on this site. Again I hope you get compensation I'm just saying don't expect a lot of complaints.

There also could be a lot of Msport orders where guys didn't really want the paddle shifters, or just don't care if they are there or not.
So they won't complain when the shifters are missing.

So now to stop the hemorrhage, they stop offering the paddles all together on the M Sport, driving people to the Sport Line, which they prefer anyway. I suspect that most if not all of the M Sport models sold in Europe had manual transmissions so there was no option for paddles. Since very few were sold with the Auto the financial impact of giving them out free was small. Maybe they didn’t realize the impact when not offering a manual transmission. To stop offering it was easier since those who didn’t get them wouldn’t feel left out. This way is cheaper for them too. I think they missed the mark with the offerings/pricing ratio with this package as it offers much better value than the other two Lines.

Well I asked for $1000 for compensation that includes my hassle with the dash board issue as it has to be replaced. (got the call that it is in) The BMW rep has been on point of call ing me now and updating me as I was a little harsh when all this took place and was accused of making this up as I supposedly didn't know what I was talking about then the egg was in BMW 's face.... HA HA ! Just waiting now to here that they will honor my request... (i don't have my hopes up )

Edit: I think I get the problem now, paddles are available but have to be selected seperately (false information in the configurator).
Dont think they stop offering them, I ordered mine with paddles (extra charge) and they should be on.

Did you order an M Sport or Sport Line? On the Sport Line, yes you can order it for a cost, as it always has been. The issue is the with the M Sport where it was previously a No Cost option that needed to be selected. Not sure if it is even offered on the M Sport any longer.

I have M Sport, in Switzerland it is offered (as said at extra charge).
But then again - Europe does not (yet) get the 35i...
