Clear-FX on Long Island
Just saw a quick ad for them on news12 and figured I would check them out online being that I'm in the market to have my car gone through real good by a shop to make my black paint not look like charlottes web for summer. They've got locations in both St. James and Babylon.
Was wondering if anyone has any experience with them good or bad, from what I see it looks pretty legit... Any insight fellas? |

Earlier this year I got a quote to have my black 06 f150 detailed. It had swirl marks and hard water spots. This was a place that I trusted that I wasn't being "sold" something I didn't need. Anyways I was quoted $400. If it were half I may have done it. Anyways I bought a Dewalt orbital buffer with adjustable speed and some 3m polish.
Took maybe four hours to wash polish and wax and it came out perfect. Not a mark in the paint. I was surprised at how easy it was to make that crappy ford paint look good. I then did it on the family beater e34 with 230k miles that was also black. Much nicer paint and was also very surprised with the outcome. What I am getting at is whether it's mechanical or a detail I'd always rather do it myself because I then know what's being done. The paint work I was nervous with but was surprised at how simple it was, just maybe a little time consuming. Figure you spend $100 on the supplies and 1 detail for a car is $100 to $300. It's a no brain er b/c I've got the materials for the next time. |

^^^ I hear what you're saying, I'm just nervous as hell messing with paint. I can do mechanical jobs, I did my dp's and intercooler on jack stands...
You may be right though, might just have to take the plunge and try |
