Up until now there had been no word that the X1 would be made available here in the U.S. However, BMW has just confirmed that it will be coming stateside!

Why such a mind numbing delay? dont they take the US market seriously? Its not going to be a 2011 car in 2010 its going to debut in the YEAR of 2011 which means TWO YEARS from now. I will have lost any interest i may have had at that point.

additionally, this gives Europe the ability to test out any bugs that may be in the system, before it shows up on our shores. which is a good thing.

no, they aren't. the X1's are being built in Germany, while the current X3's are built in Graz, Austria by Magna. the next-gen X3 is moving to the South Carolina plant, which was just expanded.

Because they don't want potential customers for the new X3 to buy the X1 instead. So they delay X1 availability in the US until the new X3 is out.

I really hope it comes with the N54 as an engine choice in the US. This car is going to go head to head with the 300hp Infiniti EX35. X1 with N54 to me is the do it all little SUV. WOuld be perfect for me as someone who wants a smallish SUV with more car-like handling and room for 2 dogs and music equipment when needed.

By 2011, Audi Q3 will be out.
Small premium SUVs occupy a small niche market, and the small pie created by X3 is increasingly being slided by MB GLK, Audi Q5, Acura RDX, Infiniti EX, and Volve XC60. Well the pie may be getting bigger because of the economic crisis, but not at the same rate as new products are introduced. Since MY 2011 X3 will show up in 2010 in the U.S., by staggering the product release BMW will get more interest from the public for the MY 2012 models. I'm pretty sure a turbo will be available, and hopefully 6MT will be too.
