Did I get burned on my purchase?

Hello,

I recently picked up my 2020 M340iX in tanzanite blue. It had 32k miles. The car is missing HK, 360 surround, lasers, and adaptive suspension (it has all the shadowline pieces and drivers assistant pro,+ most other goodies). The car was 43k + 3K for BMW CPO until June 2025. After taxes, title, and fees it was nearing the 50k mark.

The car is awesome and one of the best driving experiences I have ever had. I can’t help but feel buyers remorse when looking at other m340is and thinking I screwed myself over not realizing the options I’m missing were not standard? Did I pay a good price or did I screw myself?

Sound like a ball park ok price. You have CPO coverage which will give you peace of mind if most anything breaks into 2025. I think your deal is reasonable if the car is absolutely perfect.

But I wonder why you didn’t consider new - between the discounts and promotions a new 340 would not have been that much more and you would have gotten a 4 yr 50 k new car warranty, not to mention a brand new car.

Yea that did cross my mind. A few reasons I really wanted the 2020 was for tuning and a better deal on my insurance as I’m younger. A new car would have been nice, but the options I would have wanted on it would have brought the car closer to 60 which would have been out of my budget realistically.

Those other options you're missing you can live without, they do not enhance the driving experience IMHO. The E-LSD, motor, tranny and suspension are the core ingredients which you already have. The rest are mere distractions. I have the same car as yours and after 4 years plus I yearn for more engagement, something more hardcore which means a G8x will be the eventual upgrade.

I paid 46k a little over a year ago for a 2020 M340i no CPO and 26k miles. Has laser, HK, vernasca, adaptive, 360 view.

I think you did alright. Prices have stayed pretty strong for the M340i.

I'm wouldn't have paid $3k for the CPO warranty, especially if you plan to tune the car. When would the original warranty have expired?

No point of CPO if you're tuning. I'd go back and ask to prorate a refund on the CPO warranty.

I doubt he can walk back the CPO now. I do agree that it was unnecessary, but not for tuning reasons. These cars seem to be bullit proof, despite what some people allege regarding the fuel pump.

I’m sorry to confirm your fears, but I’m afraid the answer is yes.

I don't agree with the above. Maybe you paid a few grand more than you should have, but not a big deal.

The real issue is the discounts and incentives on the new one are strong indeed, including the 340. It's not like 4-5 years ago where 6-7k off was common, but still - it is super common since mid 2023 to read about people buying at at least around 4K off across the entire 3 series lineup. Personally, for a few extra grand, I would have gone new and gotten the exact options you wanted, instead of a used car with 32K and a fraction of the new car warranty left.

As for the tune and buying a CPO, that's a judgment call. If you want to sell the car and erase the tune, a CPO is an easier sell.

I don't know where you live, but if it is in an area where the roads are rough, then next time around try and get one with the Adaptive M suspension. Not a super expensive option, yet it makes the car so much more comfortable over rough roads.

All in all, I think you got a decent deal.
