I understand it was an early July allocation for a late July / early August MY 23 build.

I was told standard cycle time is 6-8 weeks from the start of production but that Extended Merino adds another two weeks.

At what point should I expect the production number?

At what point should I expect a VIN?

Until what point can changes be made and what types of changes cannot be made (because it would be a different allocation)?

What else should I know or be asking my dealer?

The last car I built from scratch I didn't ask anything in between putting my order in and being told the car had arrived at the dealer. For this one I want to follow it through the process closely.

Sounds like you may not have an allocation and your dealer is just stringing you along so you don't go to another. There is no such thing as an extra two weeks for Merino. If they actually do have an allocation for your order then they should have given you the production number when it was placed, or within a few days. Your first task would be contacting your CA today and getting your production number, if they can't give it then you know where you stand.

Once you get your production number then you can get your production week from your CA or by calling Genius.

Once you go into the Production Begins status, a VIN will be assigned and parts ordered/allocated. This does not mean that assembly has begun, that takes less than a day and usually happens about two weeks after going into Production Begins.

Let us know what you find out.

Thank you for the response. I went back through my notes and it may have been the Tartufo color vs the merino that the dealer is telling me may take an extra two weeks. Would that make a difference based on the information you have?

Tartufo is Merino but that won't make a difference either. There is a note on the Configurator that Merino could take 10 weeks from time of order but we have yet to see any delays when ordering Merino. Perhaps your dealer was using that.

As TurtleBoy mentioned, you should get a production number right away if they have an allocation.

Does it has to achieve status 112 to get a production week?

There is a production week associated with an allocation but status 111, Order Received, means the ordered has been accepted and production week confirmed.

My Customer Advisor called me on July 6 and told me that they had just gotten an allocation for a 23 and I was first in line. It was last Saturday the 9th that we confirmed packages/options and pricing.

Based on what I'm hearing here they should already have a production number for me?

Yes, they definitely should have given you a production number by now or give it to you immediately when you call. As soon as the order is entered against an allocation a production number is assigned.

So it looks like I do have a production number. It was on a scanned and emailed document from the dealer that was hard to read.

The status says "scheduled for production" - how can I find out when production is scheduled for and how long until delivery?

That was old news. I ordered Tartufo and it actually came early. They said the same thing to me and it was also on with order website that ordering tartufo could increase wait times.

I just ordered an xDrive40i yesterday, got a production number on the order form. However, when I enter it into the BMW order tracker on the website it comes back with "An error occurred and My BMW Garage is unavailable at this time. Please try again later". I thought it might take until overnight to update the system with the order, but it is still giving the same error this morning. Is there commonly a delay between placing an order and the order tracker showing your vehicle on the website or is something glitched?

It was reported that the website is down so that is probably the issue.

FYI - I had the same problem on a Safari browser for over a week, kept getting an error message. I created a new account on Chrome, and was able to view the info right away on My Garage.
