Good luck getting an 02 "readiness" code with OBDII inspection if you have 02 sims.
Some of you may have seen this in the other post here....
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138034 In short, I tried to get an inspection yesterday and they were unable to get a "readiness" code when plugging into the OBDII port. The guy thought I may have unplugged my battery recently or something along those lines. I know that wasnt the case. Today I went to BMW and a buddy of mine hooked it up to do an inspection there. On the print out it shows a summary of "readiness monitors". All items are showing "ready" except for the O2 sensor. Id assume the PROcede has nothing to do with the issue. So it appears that though the O2 sims are tricking the car into thinking everything is OK, they arent allowing it to transmit the proper data to diagnostics computer. I havent a clue wtf Im going to do now. |

ahh of course. . . . how could've everyone over looked that? In hind sight it seems so obvious, but that never crossed my mind
Down pipes were going to be my next modification, but in the recent wake and confusion of all this new DME shit and extra precautionary methods used by dealers, I'm going to have to forget about them. The only thing that my down pipe/ECU un-knowledgeable mind can think of is to put stock DP's on for diag. tests

in texas (not sure if this applies to other states) only 2 of the 3 sensors need to be ready to complete the inspection. you drive around for about 20 miles then come back with ready sensors. the O2 sensor will obviously not show ready regardless...
also, this was done on my IS300 and state inspected at a local gas station and the like. |

I have secondary cats guys.
But regardless, I dont see how driving around helps. Hell I drove 40miles just to get to BMW to get it checked out. I dont know what to do. Id rather cut my balls off then try to remove those poor fitting downpipes! |

I guess Terry and Shiv thinking think about this when they made the sims....Shit this is going to be a problem for many now....Like Boost Nation, I was going to get some DP's, but this will be a no go for me...The only way around this is to install the OEMs right??? What else can u do??

If for any reason, our simms are keeping readiness at bay, we can make the necessary adjustment. Only 20 or so v3s out there right now running this feature. As i get more feedback, I'll be able to see if this issue applies to our simms. If so, it's just a map update. Shiv |

Shiv,
That would be WONDERFUL. Sounds like it may be a while before someone gives you feedback regarding that. Not too many people require an OBDII scan for inspection do they? I need to find out how much time I have before they wont let me drive the car anymore. Incase you didnt know, Im one of your beta guys btw. |

if your o2 sims are keeping the ECU happy enough to prevent from blowing a CEL i can't understand why the readiness monitor isn't setting "ready"... did your friend say the status is "not ready" or "failed"?
here in NY state cars 01+ are allowed one of the many readiness monitors to be "not ready"... NO readiness monitors can be "failed" |

were any other readiness monitors "not ready"? do you have any idea what the OBDII inspection regulations are? i find it hard to believe that your state would require EVERY readiness monitor to be "Ready"
it appears that NC regulations allow for 1 "not ready" for 01+ (same as NY) http://daq.state.nc.us/motor/inspect/emission_faq.shtml also - not sure the drive cycle in this pdf is appropriate for our cars - but take a look http://www.europeantransmissions.com...0Procedure.pdf |

Are you talking about just a quick diagnostic check that BMW does at oil changes?
Why would you want to have your car inspected?

Wow! So are you saying that I can finally be glad that I'm living in California when it comes to car crap?
There's something that you guys have to do that we don't? I don't believe it.

Driving around gets them hot which they have to be to read properly, but they have their own heater and do this within seconds of ignition so your conclusion is still right.
