If this was a PC I would say the graphics card had gone
Like the windows logo screen being okay but as soon as it fires up the graphics drivers it errors Does that make sense |

Could well be a bad cable or loose connection. Good luck mate! Had my idrive screen go completely orange once and then not work for a few hours. Luckily it went back to normal. So I kinda know how you are feeling.

Disconnected the battery for half a hour and it's still the same
Would be handy to have a screen to try so will try the people breaking e92s on eBay and see how much |

I've taken the unit out and disconnected and reconnected the cables. It's a 65829193745 so at least I know what to look for if the cable doesn't fix it. Where does the other end of that cable go? |

then you've got to get the trim panel aroun d the cup holders off. then the climate unit. then the surround around the stereo. then the stereo comes out. cant remember if the glovebox has to come out to get the cup holder out in all this. but im doing mine in the next couple of nights, so let me know how you get on or ping me in the next 3 days and i'll tell you. |

Well it's not the screen........
At least the eBay vendor has the return option available! I removed the cic unit (4 screws once you've carefully levered the different dashboard components outa the way) and removed and then replugged the cable but still the same. The purple cable should arrive tomorrow so will try that. Looks like the glove box will have to come out for that bit. Starting to worry that it's the cic itself that's buggered. Beginning to wonder if a bmw was such a good idea |

Update
It seems to have come back on. Have taken out a bmw warranty as looking at the costs involved if the cic had gone off would have crippled me It's the comprehensive cover with a £250 excess. Costing me £60 a month which isn't too bad |
