subtle modifications on the E84

hey guys,

new to the forum here. just got some new wheels and suspensions on my E84 and just want to share it here. the car has 108k miles and still going strong. it's not a 35i so it doesn't haul ass but for a daily driver it's not bad at all. some of the modification on the cars includes:

2014 BMW X1 XDRIVE 28I

-H&R sports spring
-Bilstein B6 shock
-powerflex control arm bushing
-apex arc-8 wheels 18X9 et30 square
-continental extreme contact DWS06 235/45/18
-DINAN DINANTRONICS SPORT PERFORMANCE TUNER
-gloss black kidney grill
-M style mirror in gloss black
-joyeauto cic carplay module

next on the to-do list is break pads and rotors. will report back once complete. here are some pictures:

Looks great. Any issues with having larger tires on the car? I got an incoming E84 with the MSport package. Looking to swap out the stock tires and replace them with larger sized tires to fill the wheel well.

It's hard to tell for sure from the pictures, are the Apex wheels anthracite?

Beautiful X! Looking to get those tires but 245/45/18. Have you used them in snow?

thanks! i've been using the DWS06 on multiple cars and they are great. it handles snow better than michelin ps a/s3 by a long shot. that being said, it's not a snow tire and you do need to be more careful in the snow.

I've got a set of satin black for my track tires and keep toying with the idea of getting another set in anthracite for daily use.

Just haven't decided if I'm going to keep the car. I love it, but alot will probably hinge on the results of the timing chain lawsuit (hopefully the settlement will finally be determined next month, after two delays saying they almost have an agreement).

Yeah I was seriously considering getting rid of the car before dropping all the money on suspension/wheels because of the timing chain guides. But after talking to multiple people and shops it seems like the problem is only on the 2013 MY. The forum can sometimes be a scary place.

Mine may be a model year 2014, but it was built in 2013 and it is build date that is the driver.

That said, my service advisor (who is also a friend) has seen the issue up into 2015 model year cars. His advice was don't keep the car past the extended warranty coverage period, based on what he has seen and the information he has access to.

I just passed the 7 year point, but am well under 70K miles. With the whole COVID thing severely reducing my driving I can affort to wait see the outcome of the lawsuit and then decide where to go. I've brought the car in a couple of times noting that I am hearing more whining than before, so at a minimum my dealership has it logged that I raised the issue.

I'm glad I stumbled onto this, but the first Google result on this says it affects the N20 & N26 but not limited to. I wonder if that means the issue is less prevalent on the N55?

No, it is only a 4-cylinder issue.

I think if you have a SULEV car you might get covered till 150k miles in some state. Unfortunately mine is well pass 100k and it's not a SULEV car so I'm kinda screwed if it goes bad. Fortunately so far I hear no whining sounds.

Looks good. You should paint match the bumpers

I'm probably going to end up wrapping mine

Speaking of which... how would wrapping hold on to the surface? Would it hold the same as with paint?

This guy paint matched his:
https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1695127

As for wrapping, it seems like the general verdict is to paint them first and then wrap. Apparently wraps don't stick too well to plastic bumpers.

So it seems like the best bet for Xline is to paint match, or just paint the bumper some random color and then you can wrap the whole car

Nice X1!

I stumbled across your post as I started looking around at mods for my wife's X1 which is a 2015. I am super happy I went with ARC8's! They look fat and great on your car but I went up another size to 19" and in satin black! I used to have my E90 M3 competition wheels on the X1 until I sold my M and it looked BOSS. I will also look into the tune you mention...good?

Thanks for the post! Looking great.
