CPO warranty expiring, to get an extended warranty or not...
As the title says, the CPO warranty on my X1 will expire a few months down the road.
I've only got 45K miles on a 2014 and probably won't keep it much beyond 100K (which is about another 7 years for me), so I'm debating if I should consider an aftermarket extended warranty. As a general rule I am very much against extended warranties, as the odds strongly favor the insurance company. I also have a JB4 and track the car, which could give an excuse for them to deny warranty coverage. Any thoughts, especially from people who have had one?

I've got 45K on a 2015, factory warranty expired a couple weeks ago. It's a calculated gamble that really depends on your circumstances. How would you be with that possible $7,000 transmission bill or similar we have been talking about? Also, the forum can be scary, because you never hear from someone unless there is a problem.
To me, my X1 "feels" solid. I stay on top of maintenance. I also track, just not the X1 yet. My vote - (if I get one) is race off without warranty.

Yea, that's pretty much my thought. We are good about taking care of our vehicles and routinely keep them for 10 years or more (one of the cars we still have is a 2002 Camry).
Much of my professional background is in the world of product performance & failure analysis, so I definitely understand that forums are not a good representation of the real world! I also know that we make a huge profit from our warranty/protection plans.

We have a '15 with 63K miles on it. I looked into extended warranties recently and was not very impressed. They're actually quite expensive, and get really mixed reviews - mostly on the negative side. We've owned BMWs before and if you pick the right model they're actually pretty darn reliable, and reliability was one of the reasons we bought the X1. So for us, we're gonna pass on the extended warranty.

New Owner X1 2015XDRIVE28i
Hello Everyone,
New X1 Owner here, just a few days to be specific. It's a 2015 XDRIVE 28i with 36k miles. I just want to get your opinion on Ext Warranty.Knowing dealers parts and labor are expensive and considering this is our 1st BMW due to unwanted event (car accident total loss, not at fault).Me and wife decided to proceed getting X1. Got a good deal 0 DP,2.9% @ 48 Months and did signed up for Ext Warranty. Here's the Extended Warranty Concern that I have: In-service Date: April 11,2016 Mileage: 36k Factory Warranty: 4 years/50k Miles (which ever comes first) ->Therefore, April 11,2020 Expiration Date / 14K Remaining Miles Right? CPO Certified Pre-Owned States: BMW Certified Pre-Owned: Covers you for 1 year with unlimited vehicle miles, after the expiration of the 4-year / 50,000 mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks (Valid only in the U.S.A. including Puerto Rico) for a total of 5 years / Unlimited vehicle miles. 5 years of BMW Roadside Assistance is included. ->Therefore, if from now, I have used the remaining 14k miles warranty Ex by Dec 2019 Estimated ,I will still be covered with the BMW CPO Plan right? as I did reached 50k ,then I am still covered with unlimited miles until April 11,2021 right? Dec 2019 @ 50k still covered for CPO Plan until April 11,2021 Unlimited Miles Dec 2020 @ 65k still covered for CPO Plan until April 11,2021 Unlimited Miles Therefore,by Year End 2021 I might be over 75K then no more warranty Extended Warranty States: $3900 Expiration Date: 04/11/2023 /75K Miles My Daily Route: ->Home-Office Vice Versa 40 miles Annual Estimate: 14k miles Let me know your thoughts |

My 2015 x1 I got to drive to work about 6 months ago is also CPO. This is my 6th BMW and the only problem I have ever had was the typical oil leaks. Had this x1 at dealer on Friday and oil filter housing is already leaking at 36k. My last x3 also had this problem and I believe it was 450-700 to fix it. But in 3.5 yrs of ownership that was it for problems. As far as CPO it goes off of when car was placed in service I believe. My car has a date of May 2014 with it being a 15. So my CPO 5yr unlimited is up May of 2019. Dealer can tell you when yours is up.

The e84 is a relatively simple modern BMW. If it's a 5-series or 7 or X5 .... I'd consider extended warranty. For this car....nope. Just put the money in a good dividend generating stock and smile.

No extended warranty, esp only to 75k. When my X1 was in for airbag recall, they told me I needed an oil filter gasket and quoted 700. There has never been a drop of oil on the ground where I park, and in the cars entire life, it has never shown anything but 100% full. So they can be full of @@@@.

1) Leaking oil will not hit the ground, it will stop at your splash guard. 2) By the time you notice it on the ground, the leaking oil will likely have coated your drive belt, tensioners, etc.. Also, a sustained leak in that area can lead to cross contamination of oil and coolant. |
