ZF 8HP Transmission Service

I'll be tackling a transmission fluid/filter change on my X1 28i with the 8 speed as it's first service.
There seems to be a lack of information about this transmission in general so I'll be posting what I do find about it.

Digging through various forums it seems there are two basic schools of thought:
1. It's a "lifetime" fluid (lifetime being 100k miles or 8 years)
2. Regular 50k mile service.

Even the interval varies between the manufacturer (ZF) and BMW so a definitive answer may not be a conclusion we reach.

Here's a video link of the service for the 6HP (direct from VF), similar to the HP8 just different gears obviously.

Oil Pan Tighten Order:

I've also seen there is a "transmission change service" setting that may or may not have to be set through the ECU, again sketchy information all around.

Everyone seems to agree that a temp 30-40C must be reached to ensure proper fill level, some say it has to be at temp before as well.
A transmission service (filter change) does not appear to be the same as a full on "flush" that many are used to.

If anyone has anything else to add or an valuable resources be sure to post them. As more of these cars drop out of warranty for service, there is going to be a demand for the DIY crowd like myself.
Plus it's a good bit of fun.

I look forward to see how this goes. Mine is dropping out of service early next year so i wouldn't mind to be prepared for everything that has to be done.

On my 6-speed auto, I plan on doing an adaptation reset when I change the fluid.

This is what I did when I flashed with the Alpina software:

Take note of the relearn instructions at the bottom of the article, these are vital to ensure the transmission's long-term health.

Not sure if INPA can reset the 8-speed's adaptations, but hopefully this helps someone.
