The 8 Series along with the X4 and X7 make perfect sense. BMW badly needs to bridge a gap between the 7 and RR. This thing is going to be expense. Most likely $150k and up and if there's an ///M8 then close to $200k.

Am I the only one who thinks resurrecting the Z8 makes more sense than this car?

No, you are not the only one. More than that, the old 8 Series was a true large luxury sports GT coupé whatever-the-f*ck-you call it. The new 8 Series is just like a 7 Series with 2 doors. WTF?

If not Z8, then at least a Z6, but something that can compete with SL.

The E31 was basically an E38 with 2 doors

I expect this new 8 to be basically the same as the next (as of now unreleased) 7 series as far as fit, finish, materials, quality, design. Article seems to confirm it

Personally, I am surprised the current 7 is so big. Cant imagine anything bigger than that, nor can I imagine a Coupe with proportions to this size...

Technically yes, but not in appearance, just like 5 Series vs. 6 Series but with even more difference. The very opposite of F30 vs .F32 which is like E30 hat you had with 2 and 4 doors.

In regards to the comment about bridging the gap between the Rolls Royce and the BMW... The Ghost is basically the same as a high end BMW other than the the driving experience (which is the complete opposite). In fact, the Rolls is almost shockingly plain, simple, and not exotic. A lot of hard plastic meant to look like leather, simple design... It's very much like a BMW. That's not a bad thing for most cars, but for $300k, it should be more exotic like a Bentley interior which is mostly fine leather throughout with exotic colors, stitching, etc. That being said, the engine and transmission are ridiculous on the Ghost. Despite its heft it is still very fast yet very quiet car.

Loved the old 8 series, but hasn't the 6 basically replaced it?
