I can't say I blame him - I will probably keep my X1 as a backup car, drop full coverage, and get another new(ish) car when mine gets that far along. It's more cost effective, IMO, to keep a car you know has been maintained as a work (or spare) vehicle than to get screwed over in trade in value.

Before anyone comments about not using the new car for DD/work, I drive ~70 miles a day for work, and I don't want to waste 18k+ miles a year in a brand new car I have payments on unless I'm getting mileage reimbursement.

I am starting to get the new car itch badly, but at 128k the car runs like its brand new. Not even a rattle. 2 sets of tires, did front and rear brakes myself at 100k, oil change every 10k, thats it !! Will keep her until she starts acting up. Dropped the full coverage last year.

Have a 2007 Audi A4 cabriolet convertible for some weekend fun. Bought for 6k 2 years ago. No problems there either, previous owner did alot of maintenance.

almost 30,000 km or around 20,000 miles since new. PS2 turbo + supporting mods went in at 8000km and Gruppe M intake at 20,000km. So far so good!

Upcoming mods are Full turbo back exhaust in a month or two. Speed Tech 8374 Stage 3 turbo kit hopefully 2019 summer pending ECU unlock...

Ohhh sorry for making a dead thread alive.

Had mine since new.

At 178k km's (roughly 110,604 miles).

Only thing replaced, vacuum pump and rocker cover.

The rest is the usual maintenance stuff. Oil chage every 10k kms like clock work.

I am at 138k and still no problems. Its my work DD, has very little trade in value and still drives like new. So I am keeping her. I have other car I use also, so piling on the miles a little slower now, about 300 per week.

I'm putting the 350 miles per week on my 328i still. Cheaper to maintain, and 25-26 mpg vs 21-22 (NA I6 on the 328i). My X1 gets used when I go on trips with the fiancee.

I've put 18k on the 328i for work since June 18.

X1 has 64k on it now, so 4k in 9 months? Only problem has been clogged washer pump filters due to using Rain-x. Now I know better, first hand.

Mine 2013 X1 sDrive28i just hit 115k miles. Had the A/C compressor replaced under warranty and nothing else. Last month the engine started to make a very loud whistle noise. Changed the drive belt, tensioner and pulley. didn't work. After that my Indy mechaninc opened the valve cover to inspect the engine and had no luck to find the origin of the noise. Total cost of USD800 for labor and parts replaced and the noise continued. Indy mechaninc suggested me to replace the engine, he told me that could be timing chain but he didnt have the right tool to do the job (!). After some search on internet I found out that the origin of noise was the PCV valve diaphragm that was ripped apart. Replaced the diaphragm by myself in 5 minutes for a total cost of USD30......

Had to fill out a form for our vehicle insurance - drove 3K miles last year. That is what happens when you live close enough to where you work to walk or ride a bike.

132k miles

2nd Owner-132230 miles.
Hoping to see more out of her but, these past few months she's been in and out the shop. First it was the turbo wastegate actuator, then engine timing chain, and now rear differential. Hopefully, I'll have some peace after the differential is taken care of.
Before every repair I say, "This is the last one, I'm selling after this." But then I get her back and can't let go...

Welcome OGMakelnu. What year is your x1?, prior maintenance? , did you hear the whine from the timing chain or was the replacement preventative?

She's a 2013. As far as maintenance that I've had done:
Cracked Radiator replaced- $800
Rear Shock Mounts replaced - +/-$200
Rear Differential leak- $ 800
4 Months trouble free and then...
Turbo Wastegate Actuator- $700 (About this, BMW wanted to replace the whole turbo assembly for $4200. My mechanic just replaced the actuator and boom! No limp mode)
Timing Chain- $2250 covered under extended warranty.
I heard no whine in when the timing chain was going out. First, the car had an awkward shake and after a few drives became very violent with the car eventually shutting off. When I took it to my mechanic he said I just made it there as the chain was barely intact.
Rear Differential - $1500 cover under extended warranty.
Everything else is normal maintenance. I know oil is every 10k but, now that BMW isn't doing my oil changes, I just have it done every 5k with my normal mechanic. I'm on the second set of tires and just had the brakes done.
I literally just got the car back from the 2nd rear differential issue. She's driving fine and I hope I can finish the year with no more repairs. The past 3 months have been a nightmare but, luckily the extended warranty has covered these pricey repairs.

Quick update as not posted in a while.

I still own my X1 18d Sdrive. Will be 8 years with me in July and 9 years old in total. Had planned to move it on in March this year, but I’m not financially ready for my X3 M40d yet Hoping the UK gets an X1 M35i to be honest as that will suit me down to the ground. X2 M35i is Ok, but would rather an X1 or X3.

Mileage is now (drum roll)… 149600 miles. Do I win?

Still going strong, although a few creaks and squeaks are now evident. Still pulls ok for a 143bhp engine and is returning 47mpg.

Recent repairs...

2018 - Oil breather pipe (split) replaced. Did this myself as super easy
2018 - Footwell Recess Module (failed unexpectedly) replaced
2018 - Water pump (bearings were shot), drive belt, pully and tensioner replaced
2019 - Front torque reaction arms (worn out rubber) replaced ***
2019 - Rear controlling arm nearside (worn out rubber) replaced ***
2019 - Engine sump (leaking) oil gasket replaced + oil and filter change
2019 - Crankshaft pulley (vibration damper trashed) and drive belt replaced
2019 - One of the Turbo seals replaced. Not too sure which one, but it was small and didn’t cost much

*** Handling, steering, braking greatly improved after these were replaced

Repairs to do...

Exhaust Flexi-pipe splitting. Needs a repair kit (or something like that)
Nearside front shock absorber bump stop starting to split
Windscreen washer jets not as powerful as they were
