Tough call, but today I think I would take the Merc. The jet-like trust must be satisfyiing to the soul...

i dunno this is what is making it a difficult choice for me. A Designo edition mystic white CLS63 fully loaded with some 21 or 22" HRE's with either color matched white centers or black centers, and some sort of an exhuast say like Brabus......or a Sapphire black M5 with 21-22" HRE's with flat black centers and some coil overs.....But you CANNOT beat the M5's absolutely GORGEOUS sound...omg, no v-8 can compare, which is what the cls has. I think im for the M5

I hate how people assume AMG models are only good "in a straight line." Have you ever driven one? I have an E63 and for daily driving, it handles extremely well. Have in mind, there's also an M6 on order coming in July.

It really depends on what you're buying the car FOR. If you're buying a car to pimp out and strut around the streets and beat most everything on the road, then get the AMG.

If you want a car that you can track every so often, get the M5.

If you REALLY want something to push, get a used 55, the torque is amazing. I definitely see alot more M5s than I do 63 models, however, so if you're looking for something more rare, the 63 models seem to be the way to go. If you're spending that kinda dough for a head turner, why not get a Maserati?

NIETHER

CLS55, tuned

my uncle has one of them..... forget the M5, the CLS 55 can have better noise, better brakes, better road manners, especially over 120. and its always has the ability to make max hp, and have max traction. AND LOOK NO I-DRIVE!

only time i would take the m5 is if i were doing serious track time.... but then id get the M6

trust me, having driven the CLS55, CLS63, and M5, its the CLS 55

granted if it has to be new, then its the M5

CLS63!!!!

They just look amazing... I don't even like Merc, but I like that car a lot. Besides, I can have the CLS for awhile, then trade it in on the M5 and keep it.

Agree with you.
I wouldn't even want to take m5 on a track. If I'm serious track guy I would buy an Elise for tracks and M5 for daily. Anytime the talk start between BMW and Merc, ppl say Bimmer FTW (track is where it counts). Half of the ppl who own BMW never even been on the track. I'm sure merc handling is good, may be not where bimmer's at but perfect enough for daily driving. Besides I remember on Top Gear CSL55 did very very close on the track to M5s time. You should take all those cars for a spin and see which one you like more.

MB has something very weird going on with their steering where it stiffens up considerably over 50mph. I had to wrestle the steering wheel to make it get around a jughandle in an E55 AMG.
If the CLS63 AMG steers anything like an E55 AMG than its no contest the M5 wins.
