Curious about awd reliability

I currently have a 2014 28 sdrive and want to get an xdrive around the same year but am worried about the reliability.

Should I be worried?

I just took my sdrive to a shop to give it a once over...motor and transmission mounts are failing, front shocks are leaking, tensioner belt needs replacing....2500 into this one or use it for a down on the one I really want.

I wouldn't put that kind of money into a car I wasn't keeping. Especially if making a change is immanent.

Get a second opinion..

If moving from RWD to AWD, consider the move from N20 to N55 also!

Just bought a 13’ 35i and it’s amazing. I’d say get the car you want. I think the N55 is well balance with the AWD.

Assuming 10K miles a year, $3/gal for gas and a difference of let's say 2 mpg, you are talking about a difference of roughly $10/month.

i just got a 28i. AWD. the MPG has not been as great as advertised, but i might be due for new spark plugs.

i am getting about 24mpg.

hoping that spark plug change will push me over the 26mpg. i think i would be satisfied with that

I'm shocked that in OC driving you are getting 24mpg.

Driving style and the type of roads you drive on seem to play a big part with the X1. I do almost exclusively street driving and get between 20-24mpg mostly depending on if I drive in sport (most of the time) or normal mode.

Frankly the cost difference is so small that I just drive the way I want to (which I would tend to call spirited!)

Same here, on long trips I can get 30-32, but for every day commute/errands 23 all the time.

My wife uses our x135 mostly for city driving, and our average is 20mpg, and 18-24mpg is typical. The best I've ever seen on the freeway on a long drive is 28-30mpg.

i think you're right on that the mpg difference is about 2-3mpg

Back to the original question, if you all don't mind.

I ended up getting a 28 xdrive. I would like to know if there is anything I need to be aware of, watch for, warry of.

Thank in advance.

i would take care of the AWD system by changing the fluid in it.

Garage List
In my 14 35i w/ JB4 and catless DP I get 20-26, depending on what I'm doing. I actually got slightly better MPG after installing the DP since I don't floor it during acceleration. Long trips I get 23-27; DD for work is highway with a little city, so 21-23. Strictly city can be 18-21 depending on traffic, but I don't sit in much traffic ever.

Of course this car is no longer my DD, so it will see almost only highway. I'll post up my new DD/work soon

Check to see if you have the timing chain extension on warranty.

If it's a long term keeper might be worth a proactive replacement.
