Can this be programmed re: folding mirrors
I would like the side view mirrors to fold in when I lock my X1 and fold out when I unlock my X1 instead of having to push the button on the drivers door to fold in and out.

someone with coding experience could maybe do this--never seen it but i dont think it'd be that hard (not an expert at all on coding tho)

yes, it is possible thru program(both thru comfort access or thru the remote). I got mine done from a local guy with a small fee. He also added auto unlock all doors when shut off which I like a lot.

Great idea. Now why didn't BMW think of it? Let's see. . .
You want the power folding mirrors switch to operate as originally intended PLUS you want to add the following two functional abilities: (1) to automatically rotate the power folding mirrors outwards when the ignition is turned on and (2) to automatically rotate the power mirrors inwards when the ignition switch is turned off? Correct? It sounds doable but there's a problem with (2) above. Once the ignition is turned off, there won't be any electrical current being delivered to the mirrors to rotate them. Some sort of timer will be needed to provide current to the power folding mirrors so that they can rotate after the ignition is turned off. About 5 seconds of current will be needed to accomplish this. I'm not an electrical engineer but I think there might be some complexity involved in order to implement this feature. Especially if there isn't already a timer in the ignition-off circuit. And you'd want to dovetail this mod into the electrical system without adversely affecting the rest of the electrical system. Before any existing wires are cut and new wires are soldered in, make sure you find an electrical engineer with automotive experience. |

OP, surely this can be done via coding. What you're asking for is common on newer Euro vehicles. Hopefully someone chimes in with the answer. Last edited by danielj; 06-17-2013 at 09:18 PM.. |

OK, Guys, I am confused,
I can not fold in any way my mirrors except by using my hand. You can fold them from the interior? Should I understand that this is possible only on 2013 models and up? Because mine is a 2012 with the larger mirrors. Please let me know. If you have the option to fold them from inside it makes sense for you, but mine don't fold from inside (except I am missing something....) |

US 13+ models have a button on the drivers door, below the adjuster and next to the L/R switch to power fold the mirrors in or out. Not sure about Canadian spec models.

Comfort access?

I believe the power folding mirrors is grouped into comfort access in Canada

Yes I have comfort access. MY 2010 ML350 had this function, lock the car with the remote the mirrors folded in, unlock with the remote the mirrors folded out. You could turn this feature on and off through the electronic on board settings.
I feel as if my 3 year newer BMW has taken a step back in this function. The worst part of the BMW set up is that when you start to drive the auto fold out feature (which it does have) doesn't kick in till you reach 25 miles an hour. I kinda like to see if a car is pulling along side of me before I pull out into it's path ! |

Just like other BMW's with power folding mirrors, you should be able to have them coded to fold/unfold via the keyfob. From a coding standpoint, I doubt it'd be much different than E9x chassis vehicles, but I don't honestly know anyone that's checked thus far.

Yes. Typically BMW gives you 12 free coding session. After that you'll be paying for any coding. So go in with a list, get it done for free.

Greta info on the dealer doing 12 coding's free. Is this up to the individual dealer or is this a BMW policy?
I already have the ASS coded to last position, what other possible coding changes are there? |
