For what purpose? Lots of cars fulfill different roles.
The most fun? MKII GTI - such a blast to drive even in FWD form Commuter: i3 REx - honestly I love commuting in this car. The only thing I would do if I were to get another one is get the moonroof and Giga World. I had Giga World on my old i3 and I didn't think I would miss it, but I do. All around: F80 M3 CS - fast and convenient with room to fit my family It's no coincidence that my current cars are the best I've ever had. I think I'd be pretty sad if they weren't.

Best hmmm...My E63 S85 aka ///M6 was surely the best car ive owned, tho my F80 S55 was a faster car in day to day experience, but no current or new car could ever be called the best imho(until and unless perhaps a prancing horse made its way into the stable!)
E46 was perhaps the best overall package but my E30 5sp was a blast to drive as was my E24. Best to have been lucky enuff to drive them all, and then some |

I will also say Miata(NA).
Had for over a decade and even collected multiple of them over time. Absolutely not the most practical or the most expensive. BUT it always makes me enjoy driving and put a smile on my face; every damn single time. Even compared to cars with 1 or 2 extra 0's on the end of the price tag. |

Might not go over well on these forums, but my 2008 Mazda RX-8 GT is the best I've owned. 6-speed manual, RWD, Wankel rotary engine that revs to the moon, great body lines and color (Stormy Blue Mica). Still flog it on the weekends and I get the biggest grin on my face every time I do.

95 Acura Legend Coupe TypeII 6speed. If it had been RWD or AWD, I would have never gotten rid of it.
My previous 94 E34 540i comes in at a close 2nd.

Given the number of cars (tntc) I've owned over the years, including many listed above and my current Z4MC & E92M3, surprisingly, the selection of my favorite/best was very easy.
The car that holds a soft spot in my heart to this day is my Olympic Blue '73 914. I bought her in '75 and owned that car until 2003. That's right, over 25 yrs! That car introduced me to the modding bug. It started out as a 1.7 liter Vdub 4 banger which I swapped out for a 2.4 911S engine. also did the usual suspension, brakes, wheels etc. BUT, I kept it completely stock looking. The car weighed just over 2100lbs and with that mid-engine 2.4S it was an absolute blast. It was so much fun hunting down 911s. I know I pissed off a few of them My new bride and I put a ton of miles on that car, including a cross country (Canada) tour to the west coast. One of my favorite memories on that trip was when we hooked up with a Datsun 240Z on a particularly boring stretch of road. We played tag passing each other to make it a little more fun. ...until the 240Z got tagged for speeding, right after passing us. Its hard to believe but it happened 3 times. score: 240Z=3 & 914=0 I don't have a lot of pics of the car as most of the fun times were before digital. It's not the greatest pic, but here's a scan of one from that trip...
