Cannot order E84 with 3.5 Engine

Just talked to my contact at my local BMW shop and they let me know that BMW is no longer taking orders for the 3.5 engine, only the 2.8 at this time. If one goes to the Build your own on BMW site, only the models `X1 sDrive28i` and `X1 xDrive28i` are the only X1s shown.

No, you can not. Because they are ending production of all e84 models this summer, they have reduced the number of models that they are producing for the last few months. Your dealer and the BMWUSA site are correct.

Yep, production on the N55 ended in February, the N20 ends in June. F48 X1's begin production in August.

X1 35i owners should feel fortunate that BMW top brass green lighted the N55 engine for north america. they easily could have given only one choice of all or rear drive with N20 only. In that case, I would not have purchased the X1. We have a pretty rare vehicle (in 35i attire). needless to say I will not be switching to the new F48 - ever.

no availability of n55 no interest. sadly it was the only selling point of this vehicle. small car with ample power makes it boogie like a go-kart. it is unfortunate that there is very little aftermarket support for these vehicles in general let alone on the 35i. i would love an exhaust and down pipe option to give it a bit more life and pep in it's step.

i assume this discontinuation is for several reasons... very little interest in the 35i in the first round, keeping the price of the x1 down in the upcoming model and the phasing out of the 35i in general. the 2016 3-series is heading this way and it will be the 340i. unfortunately the touring model will only have two four cylinder offerings. diesel and petrol. if the six cylinder would come here i would purchase immediately same for audi and the s4 avant. if made available i would be in one already. it pains me to see other markets and regions get better offerings all because these marques have difficulty marketing "wagons" in the NAR.

yes not much demand for N55. not many sold in North America shame the new platform for F48 does not accommodate a 6cyl like every other crossover in the bimmer line up. we have a rare vehicle that is sooooo much fun to drive.

Offer it with the new motor, a stick and rwd, or better, just an M140i and I'd buy a BMW for myself again.

i have written more than my fair share of letters to AOA & BMWOA and neither have any intentions of bringing over avant or touring options with high output engines at this time. which is s shame. next up for me is a w212 e63.

I bought the X1 35i mostly because it was small, agile and powerful, with a rear wheel bias, yet big enough to fit dogs, guitars and other essentials. Price wasn't the issue - getting something that was fun to drive and roomy enough (but no more) was.
Without any new BMWs that are fun yet usable for my needs, I fear that my next car might not be a BMW at all - a Macan might be what I'll go to. The S model is comparable to a loaded X1 35i M-Sport in price, has about the same 0-60 times, and more torque before tuning. If it turns out to be a good car for hilly twisty roads and tough winters, like the X1 is, I may have to give it a try.

Seems BMW is phasing out 6 cylinder engines for the 4 cylinder.

Too bad as I love the sweet sound of the six.

What why would you say that? BMW removed 1 vehicle's 3.5 option.........The x1. To say that bmw is "phasing out" 6 cylinder engines is quite a stretch. To say they removed an unpopular option on a car that sells only 20,000 units stateside and 150,000 globally, annually, would be more accurate.

^agreed... it's their bottom-end base vehicle that barely moves units optioned out... i think they phased it out because it just wasn't profitable or economical. the f8x and f10 platforms both have six cylinder offerings along with the e83 and f25.

Agreed, if we had the current 1 series over here I would have definitely got it over the x1. Alas.

Or just bring back a modern E36/8. You were part of that cult too, weren't you?

Nah, I don't know too much about that generation of BMWs , outside of the fact that everyone seems to really love them. Those were from an era before I got into cars.

I actually really like the 3GT, and I'm not ashamed to say it. It will probably replace our x1 in a couple years.

I guess it's just Elfhearse that's another M Coupe person. I like the 3GT, but I think vanity will lead to a 4GC instead once it gets the new motors and chassis updates the 3er LCI brings.

It's still a hatch and with a six month old, rear seat space isn't as necessary as just rear doors.

Ah, the M Coupe, yes, I love the clown shoe, probably my favorite BMW ever—at least in my mind as I've never actually driven one. Love how it looks though.

And yes, right now it's between 3GT and 4GC, with the 3gt in the lead just because *so much utility*. And the m235i lets me feel ok about giving up the sleekness and sportiness of the 4GC without *too* much regret, ha. That is a fine looking automobile though, no doubt, and I love the stealth hatches BMW is making right now.

Nice, I'd forgotten you also had an M235i. Great car. My wife had a 135i before the X1.
