Maybe 35i will have different exhaust? I think the photos are 28i.

Well, we don't know for sure if paddle shifters are an option for the US, or with what packages.

What's your gripe with the tires? If BMW tests and OKs them for OEM performance, just how rotten can they be? This is an X1, not something trying to set NRing lap records. It's a grocery getter.

Is the 8HP in the F30 328i and 335i the exact same? Or is there a slight difference due to more torque handling?
BMW is using the same gear ratios in every 8hp and settling the difference in the rear end to keep purchasing power higher with the transmissions. That is why the 6hp confuses me- the difference in price is not that much when one thinks about the CAFE hit, there must be another reason and I have not heard that answer yet. It probably is the few bucks saved to hit the sub- $40k price.

The other thing could be the xDrive in the 35i being positioned differently and there is not enough space, where the 28i being a 4 allows the space.

I just find it hard to believe they are going to stick with the 6hp for the rest of life on that model- every other model will be 8 speed by then....

I'll continue to ask and see what I get from AG.

Man, I live in Canada, it was dry, now they say I will have a winter storm in few hours with 20 cm of snow. What the heck I am gonna do with performance tires?

In May when everybody takes the convertible out, you may see everyone stuck after a litle storm with snow. So in these conditions I can use their tires in June, July and August, September may be safe or not.... I have other cars as well, the "summer tires" are actually high performance all season.

If Nokian will come up with new all-weather on RFT for 18" that's what I am gonna buy. So far though, the offer is absolutely ridiculous.

Cool, let us know what you find out Michael. Personally I think the N20 + 8HP for an sDrive 28i is a killer deal for $32K.

I live in Texas. What is snow? I'll admit to having a bit of tunnel vision on this issue as it relates to those that get a real winter.

In the same boat up here in Alaska. Why not use the Conti tires that are on the 335i xdrive? What are your tire dimensions?

SamS, next winter I will invite you, especially when we hit -45 celsius. You will have fun.

bbg2D, x1 has on staggered wheels:
FRONT 8J18 requires 225/45/18
REAR 9J18 requires 255/45/18

I am thinking to order 4 wheels in 8J18 to have access to a wider variety of tires. No fun...

I test drove it when I visited south Africa in 2010 and it was nice. I like it more than the x3!!

Yeah, no option for staggered in RF... non staggered your only option on Tire Rack is Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Run Flats @ USD 201.00 each.

It looks good in person. Like a shrunken F25.

I don't like the fog lights integrated into the front bumper, but other than that it has a good look, definitely BMW.

For the guy that says the Q5 competes with the X1. How about some facts and take the opinion out. Q5 4320 lbs and 182 inches long. X1 with xdrive 3725 lbs and 175 inches long. I looked up 4 Tiguans at the local dealer and they were $29k plus to $31k plus. The two A3's were both $32k plus with front wheel drive. I'm not a math major but I did stay at a Holiday Inn recently so I was wondering how a Q3 with all wheel drive will be in the 20's.

We only have the 28i in Canada, 35i is not available, there is only a 3500$ difference between X3 28i and X1 28i here.

No 8HP would definitely damp my enthusiasm.

Looks like we were half right.

"The 28i models receive an 8 speed automatic transmission and the xDrive35i uses the older 6 speed auto transmission."

the X1M hides the muffler much better than stock (photo below). BMW needs to fix this oversight asap.

Yep. I think the take rate for the 28i will be >75%. When you start the x35i base at 40K and add some options, you're getting into X3 pricing territory. I think this as more of an entry-level product, that is more price sensitive, so the 28i will probably be rather popular.

With tuning, the N20 can reach around 300hp...

The choice between the two will require much thought...
