US Spec BMW X1 Coming soon? N55 equipped?
While visiting the famed Nurburgring, our own forum member Dackelone decided to hang around ring side and snap a few photos (you can see his entire Nurburgring trip thread here), and what he cought here is quite interesting.
This looks to be a Deep Sea Blue BMW X1 which was fit with an engine sounding like the new turbo inline 6 cylinder engine from BMW that is making its way through the entire -35i lineup (aka the N55). Not only was this car fit with the N55, but it was wearing orange turn signals in the front headlights, something not yet seen on an X1, and something that could only be needed for a US spec vehicle. So it seems like the rumors are true, and the BMW X1 will be coming to the US very soon. Past rumors pegged this car for arrival at the 2010 LA Autoshow in November. |

I hope they don't keep the orange reflectors in the headlamp like that. They belong on the fender so we can change them out.
They look like crap in the headlamp!! I am excited about the prospect of it having the N55 however!

I believe you may be right about the 6 but wrong about the turbo. From what I've read, you may only get the N52, not N55. To be honest, I've not been closely following US information though so could be mistaken. I'd be surprised if you got a more premium engine combination than those offered in Europe though.

I really don't understand the people that moan and complain about the new vehicles BMW is developing. If it's not for you, don't buy it. However, with as diversified as their vehicle portfolio is becoming, you are likely to find something you'll want instead. |

The orange in the headlamp housing doesn't bother me that much because the way the BMW looks on the outside is secondary to the experience when I'm inside.
As for what's the point of this car, I 'm thrilled that BMW has the X1 in their lineup or else I would have to look to another brand for what I'm planning to replace my E92 with......and many wouldn't consider me the younger type.

The X1 is perfect for people who like the typical SUV-style but don't want to drive a big, gaz-guzzling SUV. For example, my parents are driving 3 series for about 30 years. But for the next car they don't wanted to buy another sedan. They always liked the look of some SUVs, but X3 or X5 were too big and too expensive for them. So they looked for a small SUV. If BMW wouldn't have the X1 in it's lineup the new car of my parents would be a Tiguan or a Kuga. But now they will buy a X1 and will stay customers of BMW. |

1. I live in a city in Scotland with narrow streets and parking, X3/X5 is too big. 2. We have ice and snow in winter, I live in Scotland. 3. Generally a 4x4 is safer in wet conditions and I live in Scotland. 4. My wife is petit and prefers the slightly raised driving position. 5. I like the way it drives. 6. I like the way it looks. 7. I think it is very well priced. Just my opinion mind. Oh, and 8. Our fuel (gas) costs 3x more expensive than yours. 9. Our roads actually have corners. Bastards!
Shoulda put reflectors on the front bumper... I guess we can probably expect that at LCI. I would project the new x3 to have the same fate (orange in headlight at release, clear with bumper reflector at LCI). Orange in headlights =( N55 powered =)

The front of this car looks so much nicer than the new x3....
I'm definitely going to the LA Auto show to check this one out in person if it makes it...

I hate how BMW won't just put all of the orange reflectors out of the headlamp. They look like shit!

2. X1 drives better around corners than its higher competitors. You feel safe. 3. Since the car has a spurb 4 wheel drive system, it is safer when it rains or snows. 4. I have 2 children and the room inside is adequate for my family. Then why will I give more money to other bigger suvs? |

^ I hope it makes it...
I was going to look for an older x3 sport (with 6-speed manual) soon (after the ZHP is paid off), but I may wait to see how this plays out...
