In the Market for a Replacement.
I can't do it anymore. I need a manual transmission.
Maybe it's just me, but my X1 was the first auto that I've owned in 23 years of driving and I want out. What are my options? I just want a usable back seat, where an human can sit comfortably and a manual transmission. Are there any midsized cars with a manual transmission available stateside? |

Been doing that plenty, impossible to tell if the back seat is usable.

I have no plans on getting rid of my X1, but I'm on the local Craigslist + cargurus on the daily to find something else to use for work with better MPG. Currently looking at Mini Cooper S in a manual.

Too many unknowns in your question. Mentioned are
=manual transmission =usable rear seats =mentioning Cooper means front wheel biased drive is acceptable No need to say the above includes all brands and models. Do your research based on your requirements and ask for opinions from X1 E84 owners. 75% of us will tell you’re nuts. Especially if you have x35i. |

I think someone else mentioned the Cooper, not him. But definitely more info is needed.
What constitutes usable & comfortable for the back seat? It's not mid-sized by any means, but one of the first things that comes to mind would be a GTI. Also ran across this https://www.popularmechanics.com/car...-transmission/ Last edited by bucketfoot; 06-16-2018 at 10:19 AM.. |

A GTI or Golf R would definitely be my choice as well if I were wanting a manual. however, not sure if kilothree was implying that the X1 rear seats were not adequate because I don't think they are any better in the VW.

See I knew i forgot something.
Tried the M3 route before, impossible to find one that wasn't decimated by some rich kid's son learning a manual for the first time. |

I'm 5' 10", and fit comfortably in the rear of a GTI/R.
Anyway, no stating the obvious? CPO 328 or 335?

I did take a look at the 335GT which fits the bill perfectly but no manual . Looks like the 5 series lost the manual in 2013-14ish? |

CTS-V? New Golf Sportwagon (don't know if the back seats are roomier than the GTI/R or not)? I'm 6'4" and had people in the back of my Golf R. It wasn't the most comfortable for me, but we all fit well enough to make it to dinner and back. Wouldn't road trip it to Charleston that way, but.... At least give us a budget, OP. New only or used OK? |

Under 30k.
I don't buy new cars anymore. I would take any of the GT or GC bmw's but none come with manual Sportwagen would be awesome if they moved the rear seats back 6 inches. Same to golf/gti/r |

That is quite simply the reality of the automotive world.
Look, I like a good manual transmission, but modern automatics perform better in every way. Beyond that the biggest driver is that people simply do not buy cars with manual transmissions anymore. If there was anything more than a niche market for them, believe me they would be offered. Hopefully you will be able to find something that fulfills your (I won't say needs) yearnings |

As bucketfoot said, there's no market for them, so they stopped making them. Mid-2010s Honda Accord? Jetta too small? WRX/STi? |

I can go 1-2-3-6 and 6 to 3 in a manual, i can coast gently to a stop in neutral.
I can pop the clutch in 2nd and do a smokey burnout (not talking about your sister). The electric car will be the death of the manual transmission, not the auto. I like technology, direct injection, turbos, long walks on the beach and kittens. No midlife crisis here, i dont need a penis car. Plenty of 2 seaters that fit that bill. I imagine ill start complaining about kids on the lawn or shutting lights off soon enough, but until then ill pine over the fact that the affordable, manual, mid size sedan is dead. Wish the Porsche panamera came in a manual, those are getting into obtainable prices with the first gen. Maybe ill just be a pleb and get an a4 and hate my life. |

What's wrong with a regular 3 series sedan? Why does it have to be an odd GT or GC? You said: Quote:
Yes. Go get nice E90 or F30. Or a 2014 or prior 535 (rarer, but out there). Other options have been mentioned, CTS-V, etc.

Autotrader only shows 3 2010 or newer CTS-Vs for sale under $35K. That black one in DC probably isn't a bad deal, honestly, except for the awful wheels: https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...deList=CTS%7CV Last edited by hooligan_G01; 06-20-2018 at 08:44 AM.. |
