Many of us do/have. Myself, and many many others, would recommend against running them without also replacing the shocks/struts. The car is way underdamped otherwise...bounces around and will smack the bump stops on high-speed larger impacts.

Get yourself some Bilsteins to go with the springs, you'll be much happier.

Are you sure it wasn't a toe issue? Camber doesn't kill tires, toe does. Unless you were running like -5 or something back there...

But yes, car aligns perfectly fine on the H&Rs. I run max camber front and rear for performance reasons. Still not enough.

Well that sucks... I was hoping since I had M-sport dampers, adding the H&R springs would be quick, easy, and cheap. No free lunch I guess.

The toe was as close to zero as they could get it. My e36 m3 had zero toe with -3 degrees camber and that setup ate the rear tires like no tomorrow too. I'm not sure why it happened to me when I keep reading online otherwise...

It may have just ate rear tires because it's a pretty powerful RWD car. Our 135i gets about 7k per set of rear tires (-2.5 in the rear, 3/16th total toe), and that's with my wife driving. Even wear.

Describe the tire wear? If it's even, albeit rapid, there's not likely an alignment issue, the tires just wear quickly. If you have a toe issue, you'll see excessive wear on the inside shoulder.

http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...or-your-E36-M3

Anyway, BMW's factory specs tends to include a lot of rear toe-in for stability (read: liability) reasons. The factory alignment tends to eat the insides of rears pretty quickly...perhaps that was your issue.

Edit: you just said you ran zero toe. In the rear of an M3? That would be odd...and would have left you with a very lively rear end.

In any event, you'll have zero issues bringing the car into factory specs after the H&Rs. In fact, mine was just about still within specs after installing (and driving a few k miles).

Yeah, the MSport dampers are nothing special. I'd certainly recommend doing it right the first time, either to save on your install costs, or save your time on having to pull it all back apart after realizing you need the dampeners.

Oh, and trim the front "internal" bump stops a bit if you do get the Billies.

Do a search on here...I made a few posts.

D Unit, buy new struts when you install the new springs they are a must. Stock struts don't cut it and harsh ride quality.
I have used H&R springs I'll sell shipped to you for $125, that way you'll have extra cash for strut set! Let me know!

What adjustable rear control arms do you guys suggest? I ended up buying the BC coilovers with upgraded Swift springs and am probably going to lower pretty aggressively.

I would really appreciate any solutions to resolve rear camber issues.

KMACs - $380 and a PIA to install

DAMN... I just ordered the Cosmos Racing because I couldn't find any other brand name.

RogueEngineering doesn't have any e84 specific stuff listed on their site. I know the e84 has similar suspension to the e90, so do you know if the e90 stuff will work on our cars?

w w w.rogueengineering.com/Rogue-Engineering-E82E9X-Adjustable-Rear-Camber-Link-Set_p_92.html

QUICK UPDATE - I ended up canceling my order with Cosmos Racing. I called RE, and unfortunately, they are unsure of e90/e84 compatibility.

Do you guys think the e90 adjustable arms will fit? Doesn't seem like any of the part numbers match on realoem.com.

Rear suspension is all E90...not that I see a ton of reason to buy adjustable rear control arms, unless your stock range of camber adjustment isn't cutting it (as a result of going VERY low on the ride height).

I don't think it actually takes much to go out of stock specs. My initial alignment after lowering with H&R springs was fine. The 2nd, the front camber was a little off. Now 2 years later, the rear camber cannot be brought back into spec. I think all due to springs settling.

With my KW v3 I have a little chamber on the front and a lot on the back. Nothing can be really done. I actually like it.

I just got a new set of tires. The old ones had fairly even wear, so a little camber must not be too bad.

This.

I hear you Apex, but I do plan to go "VERY low" which I suppose I've always been used to. I think everyone on H&Rs and B6s has a very good setup but anything lower than that with coilovers will need camber adjustment/toe.

BTW, here's the response I got back from KMAC since they offer like (3) different kits for our cars.

Includes precise Camber adjustment and additional Toe to compensate for the new Camber facility.

193926-2K – adjustable trail arms strengthen the OEM arms for racing
193926-3H – upper adjustable “bushes” allows full adjustment of the 5 link rear arms
I really hate to introduce the whole chicken vs egg debate again, but do you guys think it's better to go with the KMAC or adjustable arms and stuff?

KMACs seem like a PIA to install.
193926K

Megan Racing - For camber, do we need to purchase all (3) arms for camber?
1) upper control/camber arms
2) lower control/trailing arms
3) toe arms

The arms are infinitely easier to install, the others require a press. It's like the difference between a 30 minute job with simple hand tools and a 4 hour job with ball joint presses, etc.

I didn't see it in the description, but are you sure those KMAC bushings/balljoints provide MORE camber adjustment vs. the stock eccentric setup? I only read "precise" and improved strengthening.

Appreciate +1 Apex... thanks again.

I ended up going the with the adjustable control arms. Rather than buying all (3) pair of arms, I only went with the upper control arms (camber) and the toe arms. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed.

Lowering and tuning the car basically turns it into a M135i x-drive.
Late to the party here, but, bingo.

If they offered a 335xi wagon, I probably would have bought one of those, instead. As it is, a lowered X1 is the next best thing.

I have - about 2 years - on my xdrive 28i. Lowered about 1.25 inches. Sharp, stable handling. I can’t tell how this setup might compare to others, but I can say it made a big difference in my enjoyment, and as I’ve said before - the X1 with B12 is not just a lot more fun, but it’s a good deal safer, too. My daily commute has me out on the interstate highway, in very heavy fast moving traffic, about 35 miles each way - I feel I’m in much better control of the vehicle since adding the B12 kit. I drive with a lot more confidence.

Thanks, Ja!

I *think* that would be about enough lowering for my wants, without going coilovers and I like the idea of matched springs/strut damping rates.

Any pics, by chance?

Don’t know how to post pics on my phone...

Go to the top oh page 13 of “The Shock/Strut” thread - I think it’s on page 2 of the forum.
