Staggered Wheel setup - Verifying tire sizes
Whats up guys,
I just purchased a set of HRE FF15's for my E84 X1. The wheels came with almost new Michelin PSS AS3+ . I wanted to confirm with you all that the staggered tire setup is okay with the 2012 X1. Front - 19x8.5 - 225/40 Rear - 19x 9.5 - 263/35 From Tire comparison this is .8% variance in circumference Front / Back. So less than 1%. My tire shop stated they install staggered setups on xdrive's upto 3% in variance without any issue. A friend recommended I size up the fronts to 235/40 to bring the variance closer to equal. They don't make the PSS AS3+ in this size though. So i would be forced to run mismatched pairs front / rear if i go this route. What do you guys suggest. ?

I would never run mis matched pairs. I always have run LEM sizes in my m sport with staggered 19 inch wheels. Since you are ready problem go ahead and put them on and see how they run. A few here have had problems running the non-standard sizes. Very few a hand full.

Tire Rack has them in 235/40r18.....Check them out.
Many times the installer I want like Discount tires sells some, but not the ones I want. I got my staggered set 2- 255/35r18 PS4S from Minnesota speed co, and the 2-225/40r18 PS4S from Amazon. They work great on my 14 X1 s28i. I also did 2 things to slow traction control. I put ON rear ceraMIC BRAke PADS, AND 12mm spacers on front only to stop that annoying 100+ mph sway. This is called tuning. |

If the difference between the front and rear wheels are 0.5" it makes no sense to go with a staggered tire setup unless you really want a lot of meat in the back. If it were mine I would stick with a squared tire setup. Since the sidewalls adapt there will be almost no difference in tire heights between the front and rear.
However since you already received tires on the wheels you are good to go. The threshold is 2% for xDrive vehicles but technically it an be pushed to 3% depending on the car., I like it stay under 1.8%. You are at .8%. I would leave it alone. Its a proper setup. The 235 would get you to a .4%, its not enough of a difference. Leave it alone. Post some pictures though
