Hi. In my country, the VIN at the front has to be exposed for registration. The clear vinyl sticker has to be removed and is never put back. I see many of f3x, f8x, f1x and I've never seen these rusted.

I'm curious because this laser engraving is done after factory painting and the laser etches the paint. We can see the bare metal, and it is in the area that air and water easily meet.

Check with a magnet if it’s really a metal part or an aluminum part.

BMWs(and I assume others) are made of galvanized and zinc coated steel. I imagine that helps.

And if you look at 18:30, the worker is about to apply a piece of clear, adhesive film over it. Like the photo you posted above of the white car.

I think that sticker is used to prevent engrave number expose

Custom removed them before delivery. In my 4er club, not a single car got rust and they dont have that sticker.
