I think you’ve interpreted the code incorrectly. This BMW-specific code lookup website shows that it is wastegate related. Probably should read the code with a BMW-specific scanner such as INPA, Carly, etc.

I recently started getting the engine malfunction reduced power warning, but only after a long drive, and immediate restart within 5-10 minutes. If I wait it out, it goes away and car runs fine. Also pulled the P1290 code and on the web under BMW it says CHT (cylinder head temperature sensor). I think I will start there since it is a cheap part and easy swap. BTW just passed 160k trouble free miles!
