aftermarket radio and idrive controller

I have a 2015 E84 X1 which did not have screen and idrive controller. I bought an aftermarket "radio" which has apple carplay and android auto and a foctory-looking screen. The documentation is sparse, but it says the new idrive controller should provide car info similar to the new cars. The wiring harness is plug and play. Does anyone know if this controller should work? It seems to do nothing.

I also have an aftermarket headunit but already had iDrive on X1 i35 2014. The aftermarket allows you to control the headunit for the most part with the controller as if you would on a BMW with an iDrive controller. In addition, most aftermarket headunits that fit the BMW and come the controller have the software preloaded or ability to access the software embedded in the vehicle. It is usually displayed as an app like “Car Device”. Do you have the module name of the headunit?
