What is that sound from my dash?

For the past 6 months or so, I'm getting a very brief "Chirp" from the upper driver's side dash when I first start my car. It happens at the exact time the engine is cranking.

The only way I can describe it, it sounds like a sneaker squeaking on a basketball court.

I've done some research and was able to find this thread, which was for an E46, but pretty similar sound only mine is a much shorter chirp. Same exact location though. Do we have an "E-Box fan" in our X1's?

It seems to be behind the leftmost heater vent on the driver's side. Is there some kind of cabin fan that clicks on in that area as the engine is cranking?

It never lasts longer than a second or so. Appears to happen more when often the temperature is cold than when it's hot. It doesn't happen 100% of the time when I start the car, but definitely more than 50%.

It's driving me nuts!

Has anyone experienced this before?
