35i cooling fan costantly running

I’ve got an X1 35i with 37k miles on it and on Friday the cooling fan started running constantly. It’s winter so it doesn’t get above 60 degrees f.

The engine oil temp is at 200 degrees f and it takes a while to get there. I think 250 is normal.

The heat in the car works fine, albeit slow.

I’ve read about possible water pump issues, thermostat issues.

Any ideas?

Mine did the same thing just under 60k miles and CPO warranty covered both water pump and thermostat but the failure was immediate. I was driving along and then all of a sudden I had a bunch of CELs that popped up saying the car was overheated and had to pull over. Thankfully just a few minutes rest was enough to make it to the dealer.

I think this means your water pump is on the way out.

And that is the correct answer! Thanks!

I was pricing out the parts, pricing out at the independent shop $1,100 when a friend of mine recommended that I call the Service Adviser at the local BMW Dealership. The car was out of warranty in July, but what the heck.

BMW is covering it under warranty! Life is good.

Because the car has only 37k on the clock. The service adviser and service manager both agreed that it was the right thing to do.

I seriously lucked out on this one.

As a side note, I got to drive an X2 for a couple of days. A Subaru Crosstrek would be better.
