D Unit's Progress Thread...

So, we bought the x1 for my wife and I thought she would be happy. After all, it had every single option known to man.

Right after we bought it, I had the front bumper repainted and license plate holes patched.

As it turns out, my wife hated the orange (WTF?) so we ended up buying her an estoril blue f30. Good news is that the X1 is now mine!

After seeing aznpxdd and wantm135i's sideskirts, I knew I had to copy them.

I called a couple of places in the Bay Area and they only wanted $500 to wrap the sideskirts! Umm... no. Instead, I go on youtube and try to figure it out for myself.

Using knifeless tape and 3M 1080 film, here's what I ended up doing. Apply the knifless (design) tape...
[IMG][/IMG]

Put on the film...

Bam!

Threw the BMW base roof rack on too.

Next year?! Dude, it will take less than 1 hour and you don't even have to jack the car...

Oh wait. Maybe YOU have to... LOL.

Here's the car after lowering on BC coilovers with Swift Springs. The fronts are dropped ALL the way down.

Aw man, I LOVE the Valencia Orange. Looks great!

Interested to see where you go with the build. Also noticed you picked up roof bars along the way

How come your wife hated the orange? I think it looks gorgeous - better than estoril blue!

Sorry for late reply. Looks great lowered.
Some time back I made inquiries in Aust. about BC's and at the time I believed that you could you could replace the Springs with Swift ones. I was told they only do the Originals.
Getting and Fitting BC's in Aust. isn't a problem but if I want with Swift's I will just get from O/Seas if they are to lazy to change or make the effort. Cost around AUD$2000 Installed.
1) Could you tell me what BC's you got and what Swift's you fitted.
2) Can you buy the BC's with the Swift's attached.
3) I cant remember but think the Swifts had a softer ride than the originals and that's why I had an interest in the Swift's. Do they say they have a Softer Ride or Harder.
Cheers,

Cheers,
1) BR series with Swift Springs upgrade (7k front 11k rear)
2) Yes, they are pre-installed.
3) Not sure, since I never rode on another e84 with BC springs. I have a normal BC BR series setup on my e53 4.8is and the ride in the e84 is definitely much better. I'm not sure if it's because of the springs or not though.

If you're not going to aggressively lower car, than the BC with Swift setup is great. But if you are, then I'd buy the normal BC setup and use my own combination of Eibach shorter springs + helper springs + trimmed bump stop.

Something like this... (not my car)

I used generic helper springs I had left over from my e36 m3, but will eventually replace them with some nicer/thinner ones like these once I finish setting up my garage.

Hi D Unit,
Thanks for Interesting Reply. I will look through my notes to see if the BC or the Swifts have the Softer Ride as I'm after a Softer Ride living in a Country area with bleep roads.
Cheers

Looks nice! Props to you!

What are your tire specs? I might go with a similar setup in the future.

Car is on Apex EC 19s now... I went back to stock size tires.

Here's my recent subwoofer install. I bought the box from Ebay UK.

Here's the stock trunk... I ended up removing the storage container, netting, and cigarette socket.

Fitment was dead on... enclosure fit very snug and was not loose at all.

Proof of the amp location...

Found a stock grounding point to use for the amp and Audio Control LOC.

I'm pretty much done but still waiting for some parts to arrive today in the mail. Install was very simple to be honest. I didn't see a need to make an amp rack and have the amp and LOC velcro'd to the trunk.

I used 4 speaker wire to connect the Audio Control LOC to the amp using posi-tap connectors. This made wiring very easy.

Here's how it came out.

Since I used the Audio Control LOC, I did not have to find a remote wire from the car. The LOC senses signal from the speaker wires and then turn itself on. Then the LOC has a remote on output to turn on the amp.

Subwoofer amp... Class D so it's very small. 650W at 2ohms powering a 12" Dayton Audio HO.

Subwoofer install complete.
