Hey Beemer,

Sooooo I had this same exact issue myself and came up with an imperfect solution. If I had bluetooth connected to the Avin unit and the CarPlay adapter connected, it would ALWAYS have audio issues for me. I'm not sure if they have a fix for this and their customer support is absolutely horrible. My solution was to disconnect bluetooth from the Avin unit and just take bluetooth calls over the BMW stock system. Let me know if you come up with a better solution.... It would definitely be nice to have SIRI controls working properly! Maybe we need to get an external mic???

Hey man,

Yah, I basically bought just about every optional item along with the screen. There are still a few bugs, which I have mentioned in earlier posts and that I'm sure you can find mentioned on other forums. However, I am happy with the purchase and would do it again. My 2015 X1 also didn't have any of these options and came with the "upgraded" sound system and professional radio (piece of shit radio where bluetooth audio doesn't connect).

As mentioned earlier make sure you go with the hardwired backup camera, the wireless option didn't work too well when I attempted the install and running the cable for the hardwired version was pretty easy.

The install took me two days at about 4 hours per day, so if you have a whole day to burn you can knock it out in that time frame. If you get stuck, feel free to message here or send me a private message. If you are REALLY STUCK I can always help over the phone or text, since AVIN Support is pretty damn horrible!

Hey Wes,
Bought basically same system from AliExpress as well and once I finally figured out install (lots of bruised knuckles and patience needed!), I am super happy with CarPay like you. I do have a couple of issues I haven't figured out yet, and wonder if you've experienced same:
• Power to factory audio shuts off after 20 minutes regularly, so I have to turn it on again to power Android. It's got me stymied because one of the two purple wires in the Android wiring harness doesn't have anywhere to plug in, and CAN A, CAN B aren't identified. I haven't been able to get any instructions either
• I haven't figured out how to switch displays either, not seeing NBT EVO ID5 as an option.
I really appreciate any insights you may have since you've installed basically the same system.

Hmmmmmm...... You might have a bad unit if it keeps powering off while driving. There are some apps that have given me trouble and reboot at time, but I have never had the whole "tablet" or android unit power cycle.

Post up or send me a pic of the CAN A and CAN B connections you are talking about. I might be able to help on those.

Not sure on the display switching.... If need be I can take some photos of my settings, if you think they might help.

So to clarify it's the factory head unit that keep powering off, not the Android. FWIT, it started acting up after I installed the Android unit. It doesn't power on when I turned the engine on until I press the button even if I've left it on when turning engine off. And then it shuts off again after exactly 20 minutes -and every 20 minutes thereafter. (Android never loses power). I also lost the SWC after I installed the Android unit.
I'll take pix of the CAN A/CAN B connections. And lastly, don't know this all related but I always get the NO SIGNAL screen when I power up before it syncs up with CarPlay. That's not a big deal, just curious though.
