I need an Alpina Flash again
Hey-
My transfer case went boom...100 miles out of my extended warranty. BMW gave me a little discount, but reflashed my Alpina out. I reached out to who did mine and they never got back to me. it was alex at alpine something...did a lot of coding for people back a couple years ago. any thoughts on who I should use now? YEAH YEAH I know I could do it but I don't want to. Thanks! |

Why not use this as an opportunity to try the XHP or whatever it's called?
Isn't that just an phone app? Probably cost you the same as having a 3rd party to the Alpina. If you do go Alpina again, try the older version of the flash (there's a thread on it around here). Keep the D shift points a bit higher, which is a complaint most people have about the standard flash. Edit: http://e84.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1161740

The hard part is getting the software setup correctly and having a cable that works. Do you still have both? If so, just follow the tutorials. Pretty straightforward.

70K miles xfer case oil was never changed. all others were changed at 40k ie tranny and diffs normal driving. Im not a big fan of 3rd party tunes. especially on my transmission. |

X1Denver, this is horrifying. Really sorry to hear you had to go through that. I essentially drive your same car in the same climate (Boulder, CO) with around the same miles (75k). I just had my transfer case serviced Monday after hearing various horror stories. Funny how BMW will not do anything to the Xcase unless you make the request.

Thanks. When I had the other fluids changed they quoted me 450$ to service the xfer case..which I said no because the dude said it was a life long fluid..hahha But I know better now and I know that the xfer case on all xdrives is pretty crap. I would have changed the fluid myself but I dont have room in my garage to do that type of maintenance......
It was making a whine for about 1k miles before I could get it in....I was pretty pissed off. Especially since I bought a F25 for the wife that week... Any ways... BACK to my OP who can do my flash???? I did have the more aggressive older one. Last edited by X1Denver; 01-25-2018 at 10:48 AM.. |

I had Top gear solutions do my flash before XHP was released. To each their own but I would not flash Alpina since XHP has been released. You are paying less but you are getting a worse transmission tune.

ATC300L --> ATC350L --> ATC35L. Need to check realoem.com to determine when they switch. I can't remember what are the differences just that the 35L seems to have more 'fins'. I'll dig up the tech docs tonight. Not sure if this is formalized, but I remember reading significant wheel/tire circumference difference could stress the xfer case overtime. |

This is literally the longest I've ever owned a car. I just love the e84 with a tune and drop. New x1s are awful, haven't tried an x2 yet. I think I'm going to go with a M240IX soon. Just hate to pay too much. I would do an M2 but for a daily in Colorado I need AWD sometimes.
