Map update issue (Update: SOLVED)
Trying to update the maps on my 2014 X1. I’ve downloaded the nav files and put them on a new 32 GB USB flash drive, but nothing happens when I plug it into the glovebox USB port. I’ve seen something about removing invisible files when loading from a Mac. Might this be the issue?

I could not get a USB 3.0 drive to work. You will want to use a USB 2.0 drive. That is most likely your issue.

You say you downloaded the files, I’m assuming you extracted them from the archive? I did this fairly recently and when I extracted them on a Mac I got an error message. I had to extract them with 7- Zip on a PC. However, the first time I updated, I did it all with a Mac and the extraction worked. It depends on your source.

Problem solved! I left the USB drive in while I drove to work this morning and it looks like all it needed was a bit more time for the drive to be recognized by the system. After a quick FSC code purchase from Ebay, I now have the latest maps loaded!

I have updated maps on a USB, put into glove compartment USB.
. I get the error USB device does not contain a later version. Update will start while vehicle in motion. The iDrive will restart. I am sure it is a later version. It gives an option to update, it then says Navigation Data is incomplete or manipulated. |

I found a UK based site that "sells" map updates for "pay what you want". I don't think the forum rules allow posting links so you'll likely have to do a bit of searching. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Question. Once you plug the USB drive in the port in the glove compartment how long does the upgrade take to complete and I'm guessing the car needs to be running the whole time?

Navigation Data is incomplete or manipulated error
System is picky about the USB memory stick. Has to be FAT32 formatted and for the 2022 Premium update at least 64 GB. Got the same message using a 2TB stick. With an SD card in USB adapter the update starts but stays stuck at 0.0%.

enabling hidden files for finder Type the following into 'Terminal' then hit the 'Enter' key: defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles true Next, type the following into 'Terminal', then hit 'Enter' on your keyboard: killall Finder You can now view hidden and temporary files through your Mac's file system. Then unzipping the download file (not using the BMW Download Manager). Copying over the zip with the one file and folder of all the maps to the USB Then DELETING AND QUICKLY Ejecting the USB. An hour later, my 2012 X5 (CIC) has had its first ever map update. Only one original owner and they never upgraded it so I was desperate to get some accurate maps. My SanDisk 128GB I struggled with, but then added both the Finder and used a 64GB SanDisk SD card with an adapter and that worked a charm. Definitely had to be the glovebox port for my model/year. |
