X1 xDrive23d A X-Line 2010 Space Grey
Hi all!
Just got this little beast couple of weeks ago and now had the time to take some proper pics. My previous car was a 2008 e91 330xi M-Sport with manual gearbox so a lot has changed! I am loving the new car at least as much as the old one. Engine is excellent, auto gearbox is working fine and the overall feeling is wonderful. It has pretty much all of the options available except sunroof and navi. Those two I just don't need and therefore don't want to pay extra for them. Please give comments and ideas about this baby X! -Atte

This is almost the first one I have seen that doesn't have a sat nav. Have you got another option for that as I am not getting it either. I figured for the price of the bmw sat nav I could buy 2 iphones!

Very very nice photos. We are waiting for a Space Grey 23 also. I also didn't go for the sat nav. Too much money for something I don't think I would use. I didn't get the bigger wheels but went for the roof.
After seeing these photo's I really cant wait to get it. |

Great pics. I love space grey (my current car is that colour) but my friend has bought a space grey x1 so I had to have something different. Black sapphire for me.
Chose the same wheels - love those |

Thanks for the comments! What do you mean by another option for that? The sat nav costs roughly 4000 euros in Finland, that is almost 10 iPhones! Although the cars are here anyway expensive, this car was 70k euros. And I already have an iPhone!

I decided against the sat nav as well. I have one of the after market ones that works really well. In my case I spent the money on every one of the seat options (leather/sport/lumbar/electric/memory) as this is whats important to me.

Space gray looks terrific on the X1! Haven't seen too many in that color so far, but love it.

beautiful X1! Congrats... If you don't mind me asking, why the change from the E91? Also how does the handling compare to your E91 M sport. Which would you say is more sporty? Thanks

I am changing from a E46 325 to the X1. It will never handle quite as well as a 3 series but it is very close. It handles about 400 times better than a X3 that I test drove about 18 months ago (it was very disappointing). The X1 is quite low which is important when putting a car in to a corner. I went in to buy a 3 series touring and walked out with the X1 once I drove it (almost the same car underneath, but the X1 has a better motor).

The e91 330xi was a great car and I made it even better by changing the KW Variante 3 coil-overs. It handled really nice and was cornering like a dream. With that setup the e91 was sportier for sure. It was not too handy though hence the low clearance. I had major problems with the motor and had it serviced 8 times under the BMW warranty. It never got fixed. I got so frustrated and disappointed for the local BMW service and the car, unfortunately. Finally I decided to change the whole car to get rid of the problem. The local BMW dealer and the importer understood my situation and gave me a good offer on a new BMW and took the e91 back. I then decided to go with the X1 and stay with BMW. I have really enjoyed the new ride so far!

I haven't seen anything like that. I have a portable one myself and use it sometimes when making trips.

I am still waiting for my X1 so will only be able to tell you how mine fits in about 8 weeks time. However my current Garmin is quite compact and should easily fit. I am not sure however how you would fix the holder as mine has a simple suction cup and of course there is no power there. In my Golf and Mini I just leave it on the dash and follow the voice instruction. I would like to add though that there is a BMW after market SatNav that is actually fitted inside that centre console bin. It is also removable as far as I know and is also powered from there. From the pictures in the BMW brochure it also looks as if they replace the console "insert" with a SatNav spesific one. It does seem as if it loses the lid though. Unfortunately I don't have the accessories brochure with me at the moment but if you are interested I can get you the part number and you can ask your dealer. Some of the forum members here may ask why not just put in the SatNav option to start with? In the UK the basic built-in SatNav is around £1500, the one I mention above is £499 plus fitting from BMW. Update: I have looked in the accessories brochure but there is no part number. For the X1 they list two that can be built in, the BMW Integrated Portable Navigation System Pro (£499) which also has built in power and the BMW Integrated Portable Navigation System Plus (£399) for which I have no further info. There is another non-model spesific portable one (£179) but it looks like a BMW branded Garmin at twice the price. Last edited by mario486; 07-22-2010 at 04:08 PM.. |

Thanks so much for that info. I will wait and see when my X1 arrives what my options are. The reason I didn't put the satnav option in was mainly due to cost. The forum members may wonder why I can pay for an X1 23d but not the satnav. I ask that myself some days. I just think it was a rip off for something you can get in a garmin or a tom tom for at least a 1/4 of the price. I don't really need a map that much since I know where I'm going 99% of the time, it's really just a nice to have.
What maps does the bmw satnav use? Google maps? |

Great pics and I don't have to mention about the color...
From what I've learned, the X1 won't be coming to the US until at least 6 months after the release of the new X3....and the X3 isn't being launched until late 2010. So don't figure an X1 for winter 2010.

That would be the earliest. But hey, what do I know? They can move it up or push it back depending on how the new X3 is selling or when Audi launches the new Q3.
I wouldn't be totally surprised if they delayed the US launch until after the factory shutdown in Summer 2011 and start selling them as MY2012 in Fall 2011. As far as I'm concerned, even though I'd like to have the X1 in the US sooner, if it takes longer to get here, the more bugs will be worked out when it finally does arrive. The scheduled maintenance runs out on my E92 in April 2011, so I'll be as anxious as any one else for the X1 to get here!
